I noticed at a Hastings that L4D GOTY Edition was 59.99 two days ago.

That is true. I mean, the 360 update was free. Yet the GOTY edition including the free updates costs more money than the version without the updates. It is kinda cold if you think about it. But I think it's only because the GOTY edition has more content, free or not via game update.

Exactly.

You're selling the same product, with more content. Most people who don't have the game wouldn't know the DLC is free, and say "Oh, Survival Pack included?" Okay!

Not sure the disk differences but back in December, after X-mas, I was installing L4D on my cousins computer and asked "why didn't you just get it off Steam?" He replied it was a present from his grandma. In curiosity I browsed the disc then and only saw Steam files. When it autolaunched it was steam installing then downloading L4D. I laughed then. I could very well be missed and there was more but the install took quite a while and the updater looked like it was pulling everything down off of steam.

It's the retailers that choose the price, and they'll do anything to make money.
