Re: Leader or Follower?
160+ hours played.
Not a single Second as commander.
50% of my squad leader time is when it was dumped on me and I start to bitch at the SL for not giving us order, only to see it is me.
I am not good at leading. The deciding portion kills me.
I like to defend the back flags, most people don't so they just leave my squad anyway.
I am a grunt and proud of it.

Give me squad leaders that can follow orders and I don't have to explain my strategies or reasonings for orders and I absolutely love commanding.
If I assign you to move to a position out in the middle of nowhere, its not because I am having you scout real estate prices for new developments. Having 3+ squads following orders lets me get creative. i.e. Cerebre command center hold, Gibraltar Toll Station hold, Titan having small squads cover primary assault squads beacons, Tater squad in enemy base continually harassing. I'm still working on ideas for Verdun, its a bitch!
I'm still working on getting in the habit of only talking to a particular squad at a time instead of all squads at the same time all the time. Squad leaders have enough to keep up with w/o hearing info not pertinent to their situation at that time.
For the reasons that BigDog already said, I have absolutely no problem taking the squad leader position. I feel I am quite successful at it. I may not get the high score, but I bring the tools to make sure my squad can accomplish the task at hand.
I will be squad mate, frequently to check out new people or to help them develop into/as squad leaders. Taking the time to train newbies can only help us in the long run. That and it gives me SAAW time to shoot down more aircraft

The role I pick usually depends on my mood. If I don't feel like chatting up a storm I defer to the S/M position otherwise S/L or Commander.

Re: Leader or Follower?
Squad Member, if there are no squads, I will make one...if there is no commander and nobody takes it after I point it out, I will take it. But after working all day and giving crew stuff to do there, I am perfectly content to let someone else think while I cover them. I am a pretty good SM, tell me there is beer at hotel...and somehow I make it there
