    Crash after installing skin.

Hey, I did a quick search through the forum and turned up with nothing, or at least I couldn't find anything.

I'm sure this is a relatively common error with a simply solution, but google is of no help for God knows what reason.

I just installed the Officer Louis skin from FPS Banana.

    This one.

And I used the installation instructions provided by the creator to no avail.

Then I used this tutorial, which even though it had a step or 2 more than the other, it still didn't do anything.

Basically my game will load the map, and as soon as it's done, it will crash to desktop with no warnings or errors. I've installed and re-installed the custom skins, but nothing.

Anyone got any ideas? Thanks for helping, guys.

Also: maybe I can do a 2-for-1. On my wife's computer anytime a new screen pops up the screen will cut to a sort of colorful static (right after the map loads, or after the safe room reloads, etcetera). A simple Alt+Tab fixes it immediately, but I would like to be able to get rid of the problem altogether. So far as I know, all the drivers on my cards (in both problems) are updated.

    Thanks again.

As far as skins go, I have no clue. You might find an answer in the Mods area. If you have replaced game files and hose it up, the only answer I know of is to reinstall the game and don't mess with it...LOL...sorry.

On your wifes machine, are you using IE 8?

Well, I always back up everything. I always have ever since the good old days of modding Morrowind and things still haven't changed, so I keep the originals on my desktop.

As far as my wife goes, I just recently installed XP Home Edition SP3 OEM and did only the important updates (graphics, chipset, etc). Internet Explorer is at Version 6.

I think her problem warrants me saying that her machine is only 2 days old, being a custom build by me. I know plenty of errors can arise from new builds, but the only reason I'm asking is because I remember having a very similar error on an old Dell I used to play Team Fortress Classic on, that one being a factory build.

I tried doing a few more searches in the forum for my issue, and the closest I got was a post saying that you had to rename the actual skin's file or something. I tried all variants of his suggestion and got nowhere even faster, so I'm back at square 1. I'm 2 seconds away from saying screw custom skins altogether, and honestly that was the only skin I had any interest in implementing. Damn shame.

One more thing: Does anyone know of a way to possibly download the original character models for L4D? I mean to say the ones where Francis has long hair, Louis has a light fro, Bill is wearing kevlar, and Zoey looks wicked awesome. I find that the Francis and Zoey models are MUCH more to my liking than what they chose (Francis reminds me too much of Adam Baldwin's character 'Jayne' in 'Firefly' and 'Serenity).

EDIT: The whole 'Jayne' comment didn't imply a bad thing...I just like Jayne too much to see a knock-off of him in another form of media.

I really hate to be doing this, but I keep searching the forums on a regular basis just to see if anyone else is having the same problems as me, as well as checking my own post for replies but nobody seems to have answered any of the other hanging questions out there.

I'm just going to try bumping this thread once or twice with the hopes that somebody may be able to help me, and therefore allowing me to pass any knowledge to other people with this error in the future.

EDIT: Ok, I finally got the skin to work. I went ahead and downloaded a few other skins (and managed to find an awesome SAS Francis remodel in the process) to figure out what the hell was going on.

If there is anybody having a similar problem as mine, please bump this thread to let me know there is trouble, and I will make sure to post my method in the FULLEST of detail to eliminate any and all confusion.

Now, if I could just figure out my wife's problem on her computer, as well as bump the request for the original 4 character models, we'd be in business.
