Just wanna assure people that Pros and those on GB and other such communities aren't the same. Professional Gamers are just that. They make their living though Gaming. It is their Profession. However on this I have to clarify that there's something of an unspoken rule to this. Once a Pro always a Pro. People tend to retire from Professional Gaming much quicker then others. Ages 16-26 is considered the prime of a gamer's career. The ages varying based on genre played.

A second definition is needing to play in a circuit that is recognized as a Major League sport. To this only MLG is in the United States.

My point behind all of this is? Just don't want people associating those from these communities as professionals. Indeed online play and professional gaming ARE mutually exclusive. The precision needed to keep up with the best gamers in the world can't be measured through online lag. Which is always present in online play. The FPS genre can get away with this a bit so I don't deny the skills of those who play online. (Fighters for instance need 1/60, frame-by-frame reaction time.

In the end I'm wary about anyone who comes to a forum like this to proclaim their ability. This forum, while containing good players, is about L4D in general. I don't expect to find high level clans here. In fact I wouldn't've joined the clan/crew on here had I considered this to be a hub for extraordinary players. I'm NOT a spectacular L4D player. At least not at this time. But I do find it annoying when people from these focused communities come in to forums such as this one and look down on everyone else.

Amen. You hit the nail on the head. I said it before, and I'll say it again. L4D was designed to be a casual game, for the casual player. Hence, no leaderboards, online rankings, or other shit like that. Not saying that you can't be good at the game. We just need to stop trying to make it something it's not. Trying to take l4d to the realm of major league competition has pretty much forced Valve to put a lid on the very thing the AI director was susposed to do....FUCK PEOPLE OVER!!!

I'm going to have to seriously disagree with you, I think L4D is better suited competitively. Raping total strangers is NOT fun. Maybe it's not suited for MLG but I see no reason why people can't play it competitively.

My bad. I didn't quite elaborate in my post. I agree with you about being played comptetitively, as opposed to it being played on an MLG level. I just think it's something that more casual players can jump in and excel at bacause, in the early days, the AI director was more geared at helping out struggling teams. A random tank here, a sporatic health pack or two there, and everything was all good. The best part was, it was very unpredictable. A game with so many random elements couldn't be applied to MLG effectively.

What really makes me mad is that so many randoms have trouble with this game. It is alot more team oriented than many other FPSs on the market. So even if a player isn't excellent at the genre, if they can coordinate and work with 3 other decent individuals, they will atleast stand a chance. But there are just so many people out there that just don't get the whole "teamwork" mechanic. I think Halo and COD have really trained the casuals in poor teamwork.

There's a reason "professional" gamers quit by age 26. Some people actually want to make lots of money with their profession. Unless the prize was $50,000 or more I wouldn't get out of bed for a tournament. Being a pro doesn't seem so pro when you're living at mom's house.

Yeah I'm sorry I misinterpreted you. I agree - MLG is definitely not for this game. Speaking of this - I was playing against some guy and before we started a game, he said "Why bother playing a game if you're not going to go MLG". I thought this was so pathetic, that people have forgotten that video games are meant to be played for fun.

And Boland - most "Pros" are people who do it as a side job, and they're usually IT people.
