A lot of the Vista horror stories you hear, just aren't true. Either the people didn't know what they were doing (and there's plenty of forums out there that can help) or they had some old/obscure hardware with poor or no driver support. As long as you're running on decently new hardware (Vista ran fine on my old Socket 939 setup), and there's driver support for your motherboard chipset, video card & sound card, you should be fine.

I've played BF2, 2142, almost all of the HL2/Source based stuff under Vista with very few problems. Most of the memory issues and other glitches worked themselves out as Microsoft released patches & hotfixes. I've been running the SP1 release candidate for the past month or so and it's rock solid. I almost never have problems, and when I do, it's usually EA/DICE not Microsoft/Vista.

    FUD, I say. FUD.

    I run vista home 64
I play 2142 everyday for at least 2 to 4 hrs
    I love everything about it
    I had minor problems
I wouldn't run any other OS
I would refrain from lashing out at people on this forum or you will more than likely loose in the end bro!

The hotfixes that nVidia lists on their site (listed previously in this thread) also apply to ATI. Most of the hotfixes are compatibility fixes, but one has to do with memory management and that one is a biggie. Before that one came out, BF2 and 2142 would crash fairly frequently, usually during map changes.

I found this to work for me with the mem probs if you are running vista 64 with more than 2 gigs ram. It was easy to do and have no probs since.

    Music

When I listen to music, music in the game does not sound. Is this supposed to be like this?

Yes. When you listen to music on the Xbox 360, it mutes in-game music as to not overlap sounds, and annoy the hell out of you.
