Fire Discipline - learn it or get punished.

Tonight, Songhua Stalemate I believe it was, we had a serious attack going against us at Chinese headquarters.

I ran into a building and observed a baddie inside firing out the back door at friendlies. I came in behind him and sprayed him, killing him. Several seconds later, I see a friendly appear at the back door and put a few rounds in my direction. I stood there and took no action. A few seconds later, after looking at me, the friendly starts spraying again and this time kills me. I punish.

When you FAIL to practice fire discipline, you deserve to get punished. It is one of the challenges of this game. When you sit and curse the person who punished you for being a non-disciplined ass, you tarnish your reputation. If you want to get mad about it, slap yourself in the face rather than directing your frustration at the person who just suffered for your sloppiness.

Re: Fire Discipline - learn it or get punished.

    I was not there.

It happens. Some people get trigger happy. Big deal. It happens to everyone.

BUT if a friendly comes between me and an enemy, I will aim for the enemy and if you come between us and get killed, so be it. Regular team players will forgive and NOOBS will punish. It happens all the time.

I have killed team mates who spawn in the right place at the wrong time. OPPS. My bad. Sorry. It happens.

Either way, I will not hesitate. I consider it to be same as friendly pilots who bomb neutral flags that friendly’s are capping. Or a friendly who get killed when an enemy car runs over my AT mine and you just happen to be standing next to. I get the TK and the NOOB punishes me. Thanks, you’re a real team player.

I will not waste my time arguing with some one over an accidental team kill. I don't waste my time reading the scrolling message board.

BUILD A BRIDGE AND GET OVER IT. I HAVE MOVED ON.

Go ahead and punish me. It tells me something about you.

Punish or forgive is one stat that I wish BF2 kept track of.

Yes there are the DUMB ASS players who intentionally kill team mates who get a quick thrill out of it but they don’t last long. Intentional team killers are just ass holes.

Accidents happen; it is only a video game.

Clint, While I agree with your point of sloppiness doesn't cut it, I disagree that it deserves a punish... Honestly, Mistakes happen and to punish someone is putting them 1 step closer to being banned... No one deserves to be banned for an accidental team kill. A good verbal scolding or "hey man watch it, you just messed up that entire run!" I believe is more appropriate. I've bombed my own team by accident many times. If everyone of those 3-4 and even 5 people punished me... I would not be writing this today. I thank people for not punishing me, and always try to apologize when I can.

This is a very touchy subject...it just depends on the situation and even on the person... I've bombed flags that have just been turned by the enemy and i've gotten a few friendlies in the process, yet most of the experienced players won't punish in these situations because they know it wasn't uncalled for... this just depends on how experienced the player is, in my opinion...the only times I punish are just flat out idiots tking me for vehicles, or deliberately running over me... I usually only punish asshats that are there for a few minutes and then get banned... I know the regulars won't kill friendlies just for the hell of it so i won't punish...and most of the regulars don't punish either...

when I do get punished by a regular or someone else, I probably deserve it because I try to keep my Tk's at a minimum

Well said Xavsnipe. Im in total agreeance with you. Hell, yesterday I had a grenade bounce off a friendlys back (who so kindly stepped in front of me), which then bounced right back at me and killed one of our guys. I quickly revived him, but I think I he still punished me. I probalby deserved it for not being a pychic.

Oh well though, thats Virtual war for you.

Clint, can you honestly tell us that, even with all your skill and expirience, you don't ever have a moment where you see a soldier and just squeeze off a few shots because you took him for a hostile? It happens. I almost never punish people for that. Unless, like in your case, he fires at me, stops stares for a bit, then decides to finish the job. Even then I'd of had to have had a bad day, and been already irratable to begin with.

A vast majority of TKs on TTP are absolutely unintentional, therefore a vast majority of them go unpunished by me. The thing that really ticks me off is when people punish my unintentional TK's. Like I throw a nade, and a guy runs from behind me and stands next to it, or someone thinks that if they jump in front of a Humvee going full speed that they'll be able to get in, and, occasionally, when in the heat of an intense firefight a friendly runs around a corner that I just saw a hostile run behind.

Accidents are accidents. They do not deserve punishment.

I'm with clint on this one.

I punish for intentional's and sloppiness. But not accidents.

It's often clear whats going down.

if its not you lean with caution and forgive but if your trigger happy and spraying everything that moves , with no trigger control and I die?

    you get punished.

the only exception is if that apology comes up.

its built in the game for you and in 2142 it is quick to access. use it to let me know it was an accident and your golden.

courtesy like so many other admirable traits is a two way street.

Re: Fire Discipline - learn it or get punished.

Agreed, this can become hot. Accidents happen, and should therefore not be punished. That punish button is mainly for getting the real TKers out of the server.

I've never figured why the developers didn't just made it like the good ol' 1942. You shoot a friendly, you loose a point or 2. End of story. There's no good things in wether a person decides to punish a guy or not for whatever reason. It's only a subject for flaming eachother. Think about how many times you get punished for something completely accidental.
It just ain't right to let people decide whose fault it is themselves, 1: they can never know 2. 'cause there's just too many kids and morons out there.

I say get rid of it, and let the server/game punish you, so you can continue playing without getting mad or being flamed.
