    Re: Squad AIR CAV

There are two pilots I've seen a lot of lately on the server but they haven't been to these forums, Sgt.Shred and Blockhead1313. I just sent buddy requests to them and asked them to read this thread. So here's a bump for them to find it easily.

Sgt.Shred has beaten me several times in dogfights, so I'd be willing to fly gunner for him (FragRaptor has the same honor). Blockhead1313 has always been on the same side as me, so I have no idea how good he is. But with the amount of gunship whoring I've seen him doing he's either very good already or soon will be. He's also been polite with me in taking turns when we're both waiting for the gunship to spawn.

One thing that will definitely keep squad AIR CAV grounded is a gunship whore on the same team who hasn't read this thread and won't join the squad. So if anyone notices another gunship whore frequenting the server please direct them here.

#1 thanks, but remember you gunned me down alot more times I got you :5 You and your turns... actuly I think with tenrou shooting at me in the gunship you had an advantage See you in the skies man

#2 This type of squad would be best suited for a match when the server gets back up. The matches work best because all the teamwork people are there and they will understand they cannot use the gunship. Also these are the best times for specific squads. Like squad walker, tank, (If moveable titans squad titan, and a couple ground squads. This would allow for good intersquad communication via commander, Like squad tank is being harrased by some gunships squad AIR CAV go take em down, then command sends move order. This would be a true military match. After all it all works in the same way squad walkers can aid a squad with defending a silo. It will all work in unison, tanks long range target elimination, walkers close combat and defence, gunship quick elimination and air defence, Infantry squads defending and attacking. Think about it Cebelius, hinder, and gunners of their choice in the walkers squad, Tenrou leading the tank squad, Frau, Texan, and quicklightning, leading the infantry squads, Artheuss and I with gunship squad and he picks a couple other people for the jobs. The commander will have to find a way to balance the squads to make work for his 32 people together in all these squads. Get 2 people in one, 6 in another. My ideal config would be Walkers:4 Tank:4 AIR CAV: 6 1ST INF:6 2ND INF:6 3RD INF:6 And that is perfect.

I was thinking the name fatboy might be a little sexist and upset some of the female players on the server. So maybe we could name it fatgirl in honor of them and avoid any female trouble. Waddya think?
Big mistake bro!!! One thing you never, ever, ever, do is say Fat and Girl in the same sentence. Heck Fat should never even be thought of when it comes to the opposite sex. Take it from a bro who has been married a long time they don't mix.

I wondered when someone would pick up on this post and reply. I thought it was worthy of a chuckle or two.

I would love to be able to just announce in the forums "We'll be running AIR CAV on such and such a date..." But there are two problems. 1) My semester begins Tomorrow and I have no idea what kind of play time I'm going to have. So setting a date doesn't work since I don't know if I'll be able to make the date. 2) Even if we set a date and everyone shows up then there's the problem of getting everyone on the same team.

I think FragRapter has the right idea about doing this on the match server. It can still happen on the regular server but it'll have to be a spontaneous thing.

    Re: Squad AIR CAV

We managed to get an AIR CAV squad up and running a couple nights ago. It didn't go very well and I'm still trying to figure out what went wrong due to problems in the plan and what went wrong do to inexperience and other random factors.

There's a couple things I've decided are problems in the plan and so I'll write about them here.

The first problem is being inflexible, and violating the OODA philosophy. (Read http://www.texasteamplayers.com/index.php?topic=28003.0 if you don't know what OODA means.) I made some observations and acted by posting a tactic on the forums. But then in game I was just trying to enact this tactic without performing any more OODA loop cycles. So I was inflexible and when things didn't work I didn't adjust until half way through the round. Once I went through another OODA cycle and adjusted my tactics it got a little better.

AIR CAV is not a squad. AIR CAV is a tactic that a squad may employ if the squad leader sees the opportunity. In the last couple days I've seen other people post their ideas about a squad especially dedicated to one role or tactic. Any squad like this is going to run smack into the same problem.

That being said, when I announce to a my squad that we're going to do an AIR CAV I need everyone to know what's going on. I can't explain it all in game, that's what this thread is for. I'm working on a list of names of pilots that I've flown with and who know what's going on. If you're not on this list and I call for AIR CAV then I'm probably going to assign you to sit in a gunner's position. Don't worry, if you're a gunner then all you have to do is spawn the right kit, have some vague idea of the overall tactic, and do what you would normally do in the gunner's seat.

The formation of two gunships flying in line wasn't as survivable and wasn't as deadly as I had hoped it would be. But what was effective was flying near each other and maintaining constant communication. The gunships need to remain close enough together to come to each other's aid in a dogfight before it's too late. I'm not sure how flexible I want to be on this but for now I'd like to say AT ALL TIMES remain this close. But also stay far enough away so that if one gunship takes a pass at silo 1 and leaves something behind then gunship 2 can come in from a different direction and take it out. There's a lot more I'd like to say on this matter but I'll save it for another post, it's getting late.
