yeah, what Laggy said. Easier to apply than Bruce Lee's thoughts, but still has the same effect.

Re: When to defend and when to attack?

Its hard to express the thoughts that roll around when choosing what your next step is. I guess it just started coming naturally to me, that when I lead a squad I am double, triple checking the map and the conditions on it and have a pretty good idea of what I want to happen next.
Sometimes its hard to make the choice and decisions are last moment, but often I have the next attack or defend point up even before we are done with the current point.

My squad rolls in and is in process of caping a silo: Questions to answer:
1. How many silos do we hold, and what are the conditions of the shields? Are we ahead or behind?
IF we are ahead in shields/silos defensive play is better. If behind, a more aggressive manner is necessary.

2. Current enemies that need to be cleared out? Beacons?
If enemies/beacons - clear them

2. Is it likely this silo will need to be defended immediately?
Was it defended, is it easy to get too? Is it one of the favorites to hold?

3. If I think I need to defend, can part of the squad capture an undefended point? Often based on intel from the commander one or two people can zoom over and cap something else

4. Where is resistance high? Do I need part of my squad to lend a hand at another assault?

5. How much armor and speed do we have?
Six people on foot generally make better defenders. A squad with a transport chopper makes a better fast attack / cap team

And dozens of other things... An all of that goes on without much influence from the commander. Its great when I have orders from up high, but I like to pride myself on having orders step prior to the commander giving them...

If you see me on feel free to follow me around and ask me why I do everything - I like to think I at least in general explain orders and actions, but feel free to pry into the why.

Re: When to defend and when to attack?

As you already stated... When I create a squad I usually have some amazing players hop in and give me a hand. I'm not nearly as offensive during off-peak hours when I am trying to work the TTP spirit into some new players.

...Speaking of which, we have some GREAT new players running around, keep your eyes open and try to encourage them to visit the forums... But back on the subject.

Knowing this fact, on titan maps I will usually try to hold two silos with just my squad. I will listen to what my commander is saying send off 2 squadmates to an empty silo if it is called or location that is being pushed or weakly defeneded if I think they can handle a defense or push by themselves... In some cases, I'll do that just to give a newer squad a hand with a silo they are having trouble with.

It's really situational... But in Titan mode, I can't justify keeping all these extremely talented players on one silo if no one is going to push us. If it is completely empty, I might send my entire squad off somewhere else to get into the action and help out the other squads while I stay watching the silo.

In conquest mode, I do prefer defense to offense. Under one condition: We are holding the armor spawning flags.

I will always try to push the flags that spawn walkers and tanks because it gives our team such a tactical advantage.

Like for example, on Port Bavaria... I will make SURE my team is always holding east and west docks. Whether we are on PAC or EU... I want to hold those flags. The armor is just way too important not to push those points.

Re: When to defend and when to attack?

If you've squadded with me, everyone knows I'm a blood thirsty animal on titan maps. I hate to have a great squad with me not take an objective. I refuse to back down at times which may be my downfall. An example was on Minsk silo 2 my squad had great potential, but we were up against 2 squads. I felt if we killed them enough they would give it up just to save there own kill/death ratio. I never had the opportunity that night to see it through because command pulled me out. I feel offense is the key to victory. Even as commander I've had no titan defense squad just to keep my presence on the map.

Conquest maps I try be mindful of tickets, but as squad leader I just follow orders of command. If those orders cause me and my squad to die a lot that's on him. Gilbarter for instance I always try sneak by them rather than brawl with them at toll. As a commander on conquest I still don't play defensive. Map control is key if the other commander squads are pushing mine wherever they want I know I won't have a chance. I love surrounding a enemy team and watch them try to escape my strangle hold on them. That's what I call a checkmate, you move the enemy into a place where he can no longer move without dying. Then just watch those tickets fall while the try and escape the orbitals you drop on there head.

But remember after you get the required 3 all the enemies may be around 2 silos, making them hard to take and if you use a squad to attack and forget about defence they will take the point while you are wasting your time going for a point that you cant get.

Déjà vu Causes Death

The new featured campaign is City 17. If it seems familiar, it should, it is based on Half-Life 2: Episode 1. While it is may be lacking Gordon, Alyx, and Barney it’s not lacking zombies. And no, they aren't your head-crab induced zombies, these are full on Left 4 Dead 2 zombies.
