Duke Nukem has a good RPG.

I've always thought one of the key defining elements was having some sort of character level-up system as in the WoW, Final Fantasy, Mass Effect or Dragon Age series. Most of the RPGs I've played have a focus on collection and exploration, but they also have a heavy emphasis on plot.

As for the Zelda franchise, I'm not sure. I'd certainly say there are RPG elements there, but there's also a lot of platform action.

Could you argue that the Pokémon games (red, blue, yellow etc.) are RPGs?

Turn based RPGs, absolutely. You're playing the ROLE of the pokemon trainer... simple

The games that are RPG are games that says RPG on the cover lol
Usually it will say "The best RPG game of the year!"

But there are many levels of RPG, from Pokemon Yellow to Borderlands, and whatever else (I'm not a big gaming nerd, so I don't know too many games).

But it does varies.
