I think you are a bit harsh on 2142, especially to the guys who play it on TTP, and they'll be sure to let you know if they read this. - but your point is true - both BF2 and 2142 are very different to PR

Do it. It is quite possible that you'll never play another game.

The teamplay is intense. I mean, if you wanna run around by yourself the odds are you'll die before you see your shooter. Squads give the enemy other people to shoot at.

If you think that BF2 or 2142 relied on teamwork, PR takes it to a level that is insanely intense. You'll be pinned down by suppressive tank shells and automatic fire. Your visions blurry, dust kicks up all around you, RPG's hiss over your head, and the faint scream of a jet gets louder and louder until you can see it streaking towards you over the horizon. Tracers send an arch of bullets out of its nose and cuts the enemies troops in front of you to pieces. The squad leader, who had just laser designated the tank, called in the close air support, and as the jet nears you two black cigar shaped things fall from its wings, then the pilot engages afterburners and goes into a vertical climb, disappearing in the clouds.

Streaking across the sky, the black objects seem to be playing that slow motion trick that long range ordinance does. You follow their decent until they collide with the tank. A thwump sound, closely followed by an explosion reverbarates through the valley, leaving silence that is occasionaly broken by sporadic gunfire in its wake.

Tell me that having intense moments where you feel scared for life isn't badass. Tell me having to have commander relay percise coordinates between squads isn't teamwork.

Re: 2142 player thinking about PR

I'll attempt an explanation that will maybe put it in perspective for you.

Lonewolfers don't last long at all, separated squad mates don't usually make it.

If you leave with any vehicle {by yourself} from the base that will load up multiples of your squad mates, then you have literally screwed your team. Single man APC's die quickly and take a long time to respawn. Vehicles need to be fully loaded to transport team-mates to the front line or point of attack. Walks are long and with the ability of the enemy to spot troop movements, transportation is a premium not to be over-looked.

It's impossible to run around the map to attack any position as a one man hero, you can't capture just any CP on the battlefield, nor do it by yourself. No mini-map to observe where your team-mates are moving too, you have to be in visual contact or have a knowledgeable SL who knows how to effectively use Way-points to help you move around. You are assigned designated CP's to attack and defend, which means the use of co-ordinated Squad work/Team work. If you lose a designated CP, you can't just go capture a different one to stop the bleed-out. You actually have to work your ass off to retake the one you lost, just to be able to push onto the next objective.

If someone decides to be a Hero or act like Rambo, then your squads cover is usually blown and that leads to dead comrades. If you are dead, you had better hope you had a knowledgeable SL who was smart enough to set a Rally Point in a decent position to attack from, but then you run the risk of blowing the cover of the RP. No more spawning on your SL to attack a position, either spawn at a base or a RP. If you are forced to back up then you'd better rethink your plan of attack. Straight line bull dogging tactics very rarely work. Tactics, changing tactics, plans of movement; all of these things have to be decided upon on the fly.

Advanced tactics are nice, not a lot of people know them or how to implement them. This means you actually have to use your head to not only stay alive, but to determine how to effectively move around the battlefield.

If you do not plan on playing regular BF2 or Special Forces, then you only need to buy the 10$ version at your local Best Buy store. This MOD only requires the original BF2 to be able to install and play.

Re: 2142 player thinking about PR

as a fellow clan member, i'd sy PR is worth the cost of BF2. Its alot of fun, very intense, very hard, but alot slower than the play of 2142.

Coordination between squads is generally better(like squad A defends this point while squads B and C advance on the next one) because it is literally required.the nature of the game itself serves as a filter to a majority of smack tards(but not all of them sadly).

Buuuttt it maynot be to your liking all the same.

*shrug* its worth a shot imo.

Okay I'm officially hooked I played at around 9:00 eastern time when server was packed. So much fun, had great squad leader scorched_earth65 and some great squad mates. The team play was off the fucking hook! I totally felt like I was part of a real military squad. Best moment was a night vision map. My squad was overlooking a cap, and two squads were below us and didn't even notice we were watching them. Never got a chance to engage them. This game immerses you like no other. Sucks the server seems fill up late, but I'll have cod4 and 2142 to play until then.

Btw, Welcome to the world of Reality.

    Project Reality is the Best.

Mix that with TTP and It is the Best of the Best.

    Wise choice.

If you see only a handful of people in there, jump in with them. Trust me if you populate it they WILL come. Once we get like 10+ people on the population sky rockets. We are number #4(if that is still correct) in the WORLD for PR servers. Like I said you populate it they WILL come. I have seen a server of 40-50 players on at 6 or 7 eastern. We have many loyalist who just wait for our server to populate and we need to get them in here to our forums! If you see scorched_earth again get him in here. I have seen him on our server before and he needs to give us a visit!

    See you on the battlefields.

    PS.
Tenrou what you doing this Friday night? PR MATCH? Huh? Sticky? What? Yeah?
