Its like playing a instrument or driving a car. practice will get you better. You will learn new tricks and ways to play as you progress in this game... I sucked at first, and so does everybody that starts out..... with the exception of iCePepper...
-keep playin, keep in your squad, listen to orders and you will get better

Re: questions - newb alert
Hey, thanks for the link Boneyard (bookmarked). I checked some of that out and I'm sure it'll help.
I've never tried flying a jet(F15, or whatever) in-game, but tried it in single player. I tried flying a chopper a couple times in multiplayer....once I just flew myself and got to where I was going and just parachuted out..no problems. The other time, I had 2 or 3 guys with me and I crashed into the ocean about 50 yards from the carrier. LOL. As weird as it sounds, I think I actually fly the F15 better than the standard chopper.
Ever since, I just let someone else fly and I try to shoot stuff out the window...haven't killed anything yet.
I'm getting to be a little better of a shot (usually playing AT or Spec Ops). I picked up the Dao unlock when I ranked up to Lance Corporal. It's a pretty sweet gun. Now, when I get in a face-off against someone else, I sometimes win....before it was a joke.
It's still kind of annoying, as some people are ridiculously good shots and I rarely hit a stationary target from long range. I can tell I'm getting better though, as I was averaging about 6 or 7 deaths / kill and now it's only like 3-4 deaths/kill.
One of the tough things for me to grasp is figuring out the range of the different weapons. I get someone on my sights and figure I got 'em and I shoot, but nothing happens....except I blow my cover.
One thing that seems to happen a lot (actually kind of funny though) is when I look around and think that the coast is clear and all of a sudden, some dude on a fast-mover runs me over and I never even saw it coming! That happened to me 2 or 3 times in one round today. LOL.
eh well, we were all there I suppose.
Thanks for the support.

I'll poast some advice that has helped me improve my skills at jet-flying. Since you haven't tried flying in-game, try observing regulars in action. If you can jump in one of the bombers and get a TTP regular in the pilot seat, watch their flying habits. When the server is priming or sparsely-populated (either before the game starts, or with not many players), practice flying around and getting used to the jets and how they handle. Try messing around with your sensitivity and yaw/pitch settings. Mine around 5 I think, I like it to be sensitive. I fly with a microsoft sidewinder pro usb (from 1998, they don't make them anymore), but most of the pros fly with kbd/mouse.
Notice how they evade, what maneuvers (sp?) they pull and how often they go to reload/repair. Triggerhappy2005 (28,000 jet kills: http://bf2s.com/player/49301399/ ), one of the best in the game, can single-handedly disable an entire team with his piloting. IcePepper (65,000 jet kills: http://bf2s.com/player/43698188/ ), who has recently entered the top 10 of *all* bf2 players (currently #8) is also someone to watch if you want to observe a pro in action. If you get a chance, get in a squad with him (or any TTP regular) and he will show you by example and maybe even throw you some pointers as you fly and try to evade enemy jets and AA.
Some of the best pilots in the game play here at TTP, so don't be discouraged. Everyone starts out as a beginner, just stick to it and ask questions and soon you will generate your own flying style (but don't become predictable!).
See you on the battlefield .. and welcome to the forums too =)

If you spot him, that teammate knows he is coming, and can greet him with a bucket of hot lead. Spotting armor is especially important, as they can take out a lot of ground troops when they surprise them. Use your mic as well in regards to enemy positions and movement.
On the minimap there is a directional hit indicator which tells you the general direction of the bullets, by way of a red flash around the minimap. Try to be aware of it at all times. Don't stare at the minimap, but stay aware of what is happening up there. It will save your life and get you kills.
Never stand still. There is always a sniper out there. Move erratically and jump every now and then, the sniper will shoot a guy running in a straight line instead... Always jump when rounding corners, because there is always an enemy waiting. At least it pays off to assume so.
As for getting run over. Look around every few seconds, you will notice the experienced players are paranoid androids, always wheeling around checking their six. It pays off. Also don't walk in the middle of the road... Walk a little up in the hills, among the trees, swim, use alleys, rocks, logs, pipes, whatever for cover and obstacles for Roadhog in his DPV.
I still get run over, blindsided, miss the obvious on the minimap, etc, etc. But I make an effort to divide my attention between the minimap and the action, and it is improving my play all the time. For when the One Great Scorer comes, to write against your name, he writes not that you won or lost, but how you played the Game

Good to see new people joining Vanilla.
When you get used to it, hop on the Project Reality mod,
then get ready to a blast no other video game will give you.
And good luck on the battlefields.

Tread hits are the easiest, two tread hits can kill the T-35, 3 for the Abrams. The only way to two shot kill a Abrams is to have a elevated possition and to skip a AT round off the front fender so it then hits the turret. The finnish it off with a tread shot.
The skip shot is very difficult to do. I think game mechanics dont allow it to happen all the time, becuase I can hit the same spot twice and one shot will do it the other wont.

Another one hitter, I learned from Kelderos and I only did it once: fire your rocket under the tank, at the last minute lift up so it hits the belly of the tank; I did this shot once and it worked like a charm. But most of the time, your rockets will the ground in front of the tank, or the front of the tank.
Really most tank encounters I see are 2 ATs fighting one tank, one hits it once, the other guy hits it, one of the ATs get killed, then the remaining AT finishes off the tank. Or I hit it once or twice, get killed, respawn and finish it off.
