Thread: questions - newb alert

Hey, I'm new here and didn't want to hijack another guy's post, so I'll ask my questions here.

1)how do you heal as a medic? I've hit the left mouse button while holding the med pack and that's just to throw the med packs on the ground for people. Do you just run up and touch someone, to heal them? What about reviving them? Also, is it the same thing for Engineers and recharging people's ammo?

2)What's the best way to try to kill an enemy with a gun like the standard machine gun-type, used by AT, Spec Ops or Assault? I get the enemy as close to the crosshairs as possible (not easy sometimes!) and hold down the mouse button. This works sometimes, but it usually will pull the sights upwards and off the target. I've also noticed that when you're shooting at someone, sometimes I'll see a yellow target-type thing appear on the enemy while I'm shooting, but it will usually go away. Is that when you have them dead-on? b/c I don't see it for more than a second or so, even if I don't move the sights.

3)What's the most vulnerable area of a tank/armor? Underneath? I play as AT a lot, and usually try to aim for the top area, as that will sometimes take out the gunner, but wonder if I would blow up the tank faster if I try to hit it low, like when it's going up a hill and the underside is exposed briefly.

4)Is there some sort of minimum rank for getting some of the medals, or am I just missing something?
I've played only a little as Assault, so I only have about 25 kills, however I do have the Basic Assault Combat medal (requires only 5 kills). I've played a lot more with AT and have over 150 kills, but have no medals for that one (Basic AT Combat medal requires just 10 kills). What's the deal with that?
I'm still only in the ~20 hrs total game time and ~200 kills. I'm also a pretty low rank still -- almost Lance Corporal. Do the medals have a direct correlation to rank, or am I misunderstanding something?

1) To heal somebody you have a couple of options...

• Stand near them while you're holding your med pack. A meter will appear in your bottom-right corner that shows what % health they're at.
• Drop a med pack by them and hope they're smart enough to walk over it. Full heal.
• If you're in a vehicle, teammates in your vicinity will be healed automatically. The meter appears again.

Exact same for re-supply. About the same for engineers, except you can't throw your wrench on the ground for a friendly vehicle to drive over and magically be repaired.

To revive somebody, take out the shock-paddles and zap your buddy in the chest. CHEST!!! If, due to crappy programming, that doesn't work, chuck a med pack at them to shift their body out of the wall/vehicle/ground, then try again.

2) Use bursts of 2-4 rounds, then re-adjust for the kick-back. Wash and rinse. The "yellow target-type things" show up when one of your rounds hit the other person, so when you stop hitting them, they go away. :P

3) For tanks, the front/back of the tread. Jeep can probably answer that question better for you...

4)If you go over to Battlefield 2 stats and find your profile, it'll show you the requirements for medals and such. You're probably missing something, like the "10 kills in a round" part for the basic AT badge.

That's why I was wondering why I didn't have some of the medals, when it appears I had satisfied them. I didn't know that meant 10 kills in a round. I thought it was 10 kills *ever* LOL. I think my record is 8 or 9, so I must be close. I actually think I've had over 10 once or twice, but I had played several classes.
Thanks for the info on the medic. I may try playing as that class more often, but I do like the AT role of blowing away or weakening enemy vehicles, although I'm usually one of the first people they try to kill (usually successfully, I might add).

I'm glad to know that the yellow targets when I'm shooting means that I hit someone. At least I'm doing that.
I'll just need to practice, so I can get to be a better aim.

Also, when I play as AT, I sometimes get a machine gun (sorry, don't know specific weapon types) that shoots longer bursts of ammo, but sometimes it will only shoot once shot at a time. It's probably a setting I messed with, without knowing. In any case, it's annoying, b/c I have to click the mouse faster than I'm usually able to, in order to hit someone enough to kill 'em.

Crap. Not sure what's going on, but I just got disconnected about 5-6 times in a row. It was usually after only 10-20 seconds in-game.
Not quite sure why that is, as I played for about 3 hrs straight last night, without a single problem.

Maybe I'll try again later. Do you guys sometimes have issues with the server randomly dropping people? Or, do admins kick people for random reasons? I know my ping has been good lately (~50 or so) and I didn't TK anyone, so not sure...

nah, i just went and updated pb. There was an update available (and it installed), but I keep getting dropped after only 10-20 seconds. I was playing last night and this afternoon without issue, so maybe it's some network problem around here, or something else.

just the normal, "your connection to the server has been lost" or something like that. It just goes back to the server listings.

I had the same problem last week. Restarted my router via internet (dial directly into it) and now it's working like a charm
