Yeah, I know I was on the other side. I was commanding against you, you silly. I had a front row seat to your effect on my people and you did a pretty good job.

Nope, you are mixing up the rounds. The round that you were commander, I was also commander. The round previous you were fighting, as was I.

    Re: commanding....

I've had some great rounds commanding (haven't commanded that many) including a really nice come from behind victory - which I think are the sweetest. A couple of good SLs under you makes all the difference in the world.

I tend to let the SLs pick their objectives unless I see them bunching up. Is this a good tactic or is it better to keep tight control?

I tend to let SLs set their own objectives and only change them when I need to. Most of the regs know what needs to be done and knows what they can handle with the squad they have. It also gives me leave to baby the SLs that might be new to the position or the server and don't know what's expected of them.

My teams win more times than not when I command, so I guess it's a viable tactic. Though, there are plenty of others around here who like to control things a little more personally. And that works too.

    Re: commanding....

I play my squad leaders loosely. I tend to give them 1 or 2 silos / or a flag to worry about and let them move their orders as needed.

On titans, I set titan defense and assault squads early on. Periodically remind those squads about shield levels. Let them set their own orders when its appropriate in case I miss it.

About the only times I have to get tighter control on the squad leaders is typically on a conquest map and things aren't going right. Such as the assault team got through the toll station and are headed for the ruins or something to that effect. That, or if you've got a visitor not used to the way we do things and he has squad members all over the map, I may start saying tsomething.

    Re: commanding....

One valuable technique to get noncompliant squad leaders in line is to call them out for their behavior on the open channel. While I haven't had this experience while playing 2142, in BF2 (where orders don't generate points) nothing is more effective.

Just ask the noncompliant squad leader some pointed questions over coms like:
    • "are you planning on following any orders?"
    • "do you think your too good to follow a simple order?"
    • "aren't you part of the team? everyone else is following orders, why aren't you?"
    • etc.

One of two things will happen, they will get the message, or they will be vilified by the other SL's.

Try it - Guilt is a great motivator.
