    SL Advice

so this last weekend .. sometime I cant remember when I was on another server because TTP was full. it was like 1:00am.. which I almost never play that late. there were like 30 or so players total. so I was in a squad for a wile and they guys were ok .. anyway at some point I dont know when but I became the SL. Believe it or not I thought.. "well not on TTP so I might just get away with being SL for a wile." at the time it was just me and 2 other guys at that point.

by the end of the game, the squad was full and we actually won the game and I do think its because of our squad, so that was cool. I did ok. but thats not a question I had this one guy that was from russia or something.. anyway I had to just about argue with him everytime I issued a new order. we were shooting and scooting a lot so.. I was busy and I really didnt have time to argue. so my question is what do you guys do?

the thing is.. this guy was pretty good.. and he was a really good pilot. so i finaly got him in to a gunship and I really didnt hear much from him after that. so.. I argued with him a bit and I got him on the same page as the rest of us, and without him in the airship I think it would have been hard to win.. so did i do the right thing?

do you let guys talk back much?
do you think I did the right thing?
can you kick a guy out of your squad?

If they have a valid point I listen, but question my orders without a valid reason and you're gone. That spot WILL be filled by a teamplayer or no one at all.

I think you did the right thing, but don't be so timid next time. That guy probably noticed that, and tried walking all over you.
enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P

yep - what DJ said. I'm generally fairly open minded in terms or roles of folks in my squads (there are certain people that I can think of who I actively tell to perform a role like gunship if they happen to be in my squad - think Artheus and Jakt cause they are very good at it and can take out armor heading to our capture order)

Otherwise, if there is a valid (good) reason why they are not with the squad its fine. Otherwise, kicked.

There's an parable someone came up with a while ago, I forget who at the moment, and it goes something like this: if your squad leader gives you an order to go stand on a box:

    1. You go stand on the box.

    2. If you have a question about the orders, or a suggestion for a better course of action, or if your situation is such that you may not be able to get to the box right away, feel free to raise the point with the squad leader - while you're running to stand on the box.

    3. If, on the other hand, you decide to ignore the orders, or stand around questioning them while not moving towards the box whatsoever, that's a kick or a ban for non-teamplay.

You can kick them out of your squad, or if it's been a habitual thing on the part of that player, you can contact an admin to have them removed from the server. As squad leader, you're in charge of your squad - you have a responsibility, but everyone else likewise has to listen to your orders.

While we're at it, the last time I was on, a commander decided to mike spam and send out false spottings (as in making a tank appear on the minimap using the q-spot that wasn't there). Thank God for the Admins. This is a reminder that with all of this talk about SMs not following orders, for the SLs out there to command properly and follow commander orders, and for the commanders to do their job instead of dicking around.

i take a different course of action...
if they are not following orders.

    1. i ask them nicely the first time...
    2. second time i tell them that it is an order and he will be removed from the squad.
    3. i tell them to not join this squad again unless they want to do what they are ordered to.

Some other advice. Become a reservist! Ya don't have to play on secondary/tertiary/googliary sites then.
