Commanding
The biggest mistake I see regarding commanders and arty is that most don't seem to realize there is a significant time lag (15 sec) between when the arty is placed and when it actually hits. If a flag is being capped you can forget about putting arty down as any smart player will have long since vacated the area. You might catch a new spawner but that's about it. Only exception is if it's their ONLY flag then by all means arty it.
I've got a lot of hours in as commander, have my War College Ribbon and Gold badge. More importantly, I've read all the BF2 Commander guides out there and even helped edit some. If anyone has questions on the subject, feel free to send me a PM.

Commanding
Ummm...I don't know why you're sticking your tongue out at me. I've only been on the forums a short while so I didn't/don't know what the TTP forum community in general knows/doesn't know about commanding. I was simply offering to answer any questions those new to commanding might have but might be too intimidated to ask in the forums.

Commanding
Another note regarding commanding......the WHOLE team needs to be watching the map. Squad leaders need to be sure their squad members are watching the map and they should also be communicating to their squad what the commander is saying and or doing. For instance....yesterday I was commanding on the Karkland map....everyone who plays that map knows that the best way to beat the MEC is to capture the factory. I would bet that 99% of the time if you capture that flag and you are able to hold it...especially early in the game and especially with a full squad....you are going to win. On the MEC side I have been part of victories where that flag was the only one we had....we just killed more than the US did.
The point is....I was spoting the enemy trying to get back there and no one was watching the map...over the mic i was frantically trying to get squads to get back to the factory and had to tell one squad they were going in the wrong direction. Needless to say...we lost the flag anthe game and after they got that flag and the whole damn US team spawned there...it was a blow out.
I had one SL ask for artillery and UAV when I had no assets....told me he wasn't paying attention to the what was happening on the battlefield and what I was saying as a commander.
If you are going to command you need to do it right.....but the rest have to understand that this is a team game and they have to do their part to watch out for the whole team.
Just about every map has key flags that I have written about on other threads......this game is like any other game....you have to figure out the strategy to win the map and then implement it. Sometimes it takes patience to sit at a flag and play defense......or to follow orders by a commander that knows what the hell he is doing....but if you do....victory will follow.
I have read many times on this forum about stacked teams....and honestly the only thing that is stacked about the teams that I see...is that the squads work together and know the best objectives to win the game. I have been on many teams that got their asses handed to them and believe me I have hated it.....but it is a thing of beauty to see 3 or 4 squads working together to over come the opposition. I don't believe one side totally dominating another has a thing to do with the players......it's the team work that dominates.
One last thing......no one should hesitate to suicide to respawn at a important flag. YHou do what ever it takes to win the game. Short of hacking and using aim bots of course.
I'm not as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was!

Commanding
Well, just like everything else in BF2, being a good commander will come with experience. Everything a commander has, from the scan, to the supply drops is essential for a victory. Some commanders put up a UAV and then go running around and hop in tanks and start fighting, completely disregarding the Scan, which helps spot out the enemy moving into the team flags, spotting attack choppers etc. etc.
First thing people need to learn when being the commander....STAY THE FUCK PUT...MOVE only to save your life and keep commanding.
If you´re an experienced commander and maybe you´re the only one close to a flag that is being taken, you assess your risk and engage if it is probable you will save the flag from being capped. If there is no possibility for you to stop the enemy, then stay put, keep commanding and moving your pieces around the board.
Another important thing is with the manual spots of the enemy. Do not spot enemy just for the hell of spotting the enemy. Spot them to let your team know where the enemy is moving, or if there is immediate danger right around the corner. Spot the enemy, let your squad leaders know what flags are in danger, assign a specific squad to pursue them and leave others on the frontline to hold.
this is just a small, small part of commanding but it helps.

Dont forget the most important part about Commanding (in my opinion). Voice communication to your squad leaders. When I command I talk. I'll get a squad leader sometimes who will ask for orders through menu pull-down instead of voice while within eye site of an enemy flag. I would rather you ask me with your voice so I don't have to stop everything I'm doing to bring up a menu just to direct you to the obvious. The Commander can't think for all 32 players. Thats why we have squad leaders. If you don't have a mic, DON'T SL.
