And actually Trailhunter, you may have a point about kicking it into the right mindset.

Hey, funny story time.

So first time I played here, I got kicked for "bad attitude."

The story is, I hopped into the top seat of the walker on Tuna Harbor with a guy from a resident clan. We ate a mine or near-miss arty strike, and I hopped out to repair. But, I often don't wear my headset when pubbing, since it's futile to talk to most people/squads anyway.

So, I hop out to repair, and this guy keeps on walking. I'm like, "Numb-nuts, I'm trying to fix you!" And I rattle some SMG rounds off his bum to get his attention. So he stops, and one of his clan-mates hops in before I get there. My thought at that point is, "Great, another clan of self-serving SoB's..." And the next thing I see is "Kicking [OF]RottnJP: Bad Attitude"

Man, was I was pissed! Like, "WTF! Bad attitude?!? You ditch me for your clan buddy when I'm trying to fix you, then say *I* have a bad attitude?? And you claim to be a 'team player?' A-hole, I'm coming to your forum and chew your ass for that one!"

So I come to the forum and figure, "Well, they at least have rules posted- I suppose I have to read them before I can meaningfully address how many of their own rules this jackass violated."

Of course, by the end of my reading, I had to admit that I hadn't used a mic, and it was conceivable the walker driver misinterpreted my SMG rounds as "bad attitude" instead of the intended "Hey, wait up." Of course, a logical solution to this injustice was to put on my headset. Pretty easy, and not an unreasonable request. O.K., I'll do that, and see what they do....

So I log back in, and see there's no commander. Aha! Here's a perfect chance to see if these jokers do what they say. So I start commanding, and I'll be darned if the squads didn't follow orders! I'm like, "No way, that had to have been coincidence..." And squad leaders are actually talking. So I give another order to some random dude's squad. Sure enough, this guy's squad coalesces around the objective, he drops a beacon at a nice unobtrusive distance, and his squad goes at it like a bulldog. (Random bit of trivia- As I recall, that squad was Laggy's, and near the end of the round and had some nice things to say about my command style.) The squad I had been kicked from still had a walker. So, they get the next further objective, and I hear a chorus of "Roger that's" and "Rightie-o's..."

Long story short, many months later, and except for stints with bad pinging servers, a majority of my gaming time has been spent here, and my reserve slot payment will be coming next week.

So, here's one more data point that a well-placed kick can, in fact, make better team players, and there's value in not going right to the ban-stick.

And for the kick-ee's and ban-ee's out there, I suppose a data-point that your experience will be what you make it, and you get to choose how you react to such messages from admins...

Trail...was it you that I PMed back in the day at the time of your ban to keep your cool etc and follow procedure etc. or perhaps it was Angel? or neither

I must have deleted the pm if you sent me one. I only have pm's back to november of 07 for some reason. Although I do remember getting a pm from someone at the time that I was ranting and I know rock_lobster was one of the members that told me to cool down.

Ah, memories! They can be painful, but rewarding.

not I...my only ban is for landing my POD on a full transport and getting PB banned...sigh...
