If you have X up and one of your buddies are playing Vanilla click on their name and say JOIN GAME. It should take you right in. It has worked for me before. :9

Edited to add : There is also a controller on the bottom of your X Fire window that will connect you to the game your buddy is playing. Try and let me know if it works.

OK, had to select CONNECT TO IP, before I could get it... I guess the old link got changed or something...? I dont know. looks like Im in thought, thanks.

Hah! IP worked for me, and it appears to be the IP the SF server used!

I never deleted it from my favorites and now it is green and playing OCS!
