I played a lot of Campaign before I moved to Versus, so I knew a small bit. When I thought I was ready for Versus, I wasn't. The only thing that really confused me was spawning and attacking as a Hunter.

After a decent amount of games, although, I understood how to play.. A little.

It took me even longer to figure out good strategies for stopping the Survivors quickly.

I've had the game for a long while now and am pretty good. So I guess I learned the ropes at an average pace.

This might be a noobish thing to do, but I think having a Spitter scale to the top of a wall so a Jockey can steer a survivor into danger is a good idea. Does anyone else have any good pairings? Like, using a smoker to pull a survivor into a witch's startle zone, and hunter and jockey, so a hunter can jump onto a survivor, and when the hunter dies or gets off, the jockey has a good time to get on (when they're getting up).

EDIT: I guess I learned pretty fast. I haven't played Versus much, and these were the first strategies that came to me. I just don't think the others learn as fast... Maybe we could set up some kind of match where beginners and advanced players teach each other? Advanced players can still learn from beginners, you know.

I just watched online videos to see what other people did as the infected. I watched a ton of online vids of versus before I even bought the game just to see how good it was, which was probably what got me into L4d in the first place. Though, I see what you mean. Valve seems to have a huge problem with trying to teach people how to play a game, especially on the Xbox, a huge example was Tf2, where there isn't even a single player to learn the physics of the game.

I used to play Campaign in L4D a lot with my friends when it first came out, but I never really got the hang of it. Like it was too difficult for me to spot Hunters and Smokers, L4D was too dark for me at first.

Technically, to this day, I never bought L4D2 lol. My friend let me borrow it once and I guess he just forgot he had and thought he lost his. I was a happy little camper. :]

I got bored of L4D2's Campaign really fast so I just started playing Versus matches nonstop. I started playing before they had votekicks and the bountiful glitches it had when it was first released. I just kept playing Versus matches and observing others constantly. I eventually got a feel for the maps, got way better as Survivors and Infected, I found some really good players and we started a team.

I honestly don't think there's a limit on how good you can get at this. I feel like even now when I play Versus, I'm other learning a new trick, perfecting a trick, or just sharpening my skills lol. Idk about you guys but I know when I first started playing Versus, I only wanted to be Infected. So I would literally play an Infected round and leave.
I love joining a lobby with preset team of 4 Survivors or Infected with mics who start talking a lot of shit and I end up making them rage quit.
Excuses are like assholes, everybody's got one.
