Why have them if you can't use them. This will be what most people will say. I like the idea of not nade spamming also but to not use sentry guns is different. And as for nades, the attacking team sure dosen't mind using them to clear the hallway. I say have one or two medics, a recon and the rest supply. This is the ideal defending squad set up for titan-d. No nade spamming or rockets, put the medics in the back with the recon in the middle and the supply guys with there hmg's up front(sentry guns optional because they can be taken out with well placed emp grenades). Recon can snipe or use the lambert in case someone breaks thru the supply guys and the medics will have their mg's in case the attackers make it all the way thru. But the attackers can't use nades or rockets either, just the firearms. Now this would be a good titan round.

Re: Defending without the nade spam
I have to put my own two cents in on this.
I think nade spamming is a tool and a valid strategy. It is not a “Titanium Wall” that is impervious. Believe me; I have been on the receiving end of a good offensive grenade toss that totally decimated a well laid out defense. (2 support with sentries and nade rain going, two meds hanging back with rockets and a sniper with trips and rdx)
That being said, I really like being support with the sentries and my ganz burning up the end of the corridor. Nothing is more satisfactory that seeing a corpse jiggle as it is repeatedly filled with hot slugs of iron (Or what ever they use in the future). Or like Raven and Tenrou mentioned, defending with your pistols is a challenge and strangely fun.
But to say that nade spaming is not Teamplay or a valid method of defense is like saying killing someone with your shotgun is not teamplay. It isn’t called a “noob canon” for nothing. (Sorry BD but I have to respectfully disagree with you here, but in the end isn’t it all “just button mashing”?) I have seen a good titan D be decimated by that one non-team player that decided to run to the end of the hall and try to catch nades while the enemy is running in the other way. Or that one player when ordered to the titan decides he has other things to do and the defense can’t get properly set-up due to a missing piece. Teamplay becomes a big factor in setting up a proper defense regardless if it is set up to nade spam or pistol whip the attackers.
Believe me when I say that EA is not in anyway perfect. They have made or removed plenty of stupid ways of doing things part of the norm of the game, but I think this is a valid tactic that is an formidable obstacle the attacking team has to be prepared to address.

Re: Defending without the nade spam
Nade spamming can be boring and suck to have to keep running into it, but I think its an alright tactic.
It is definitely a win at all cost move, and it is very very hard to crack it if a good squad is doing it.
Because of the confined space, people are going to spam something. If not nades, then it will be rockets, and if not that, then RDX and APM.
I am surprised that I have never seen a squad with something like 5 support and a medic setup a maze of sentries and shields though. That might be interesting.

Re: Defending without the nade spam
My friend and I used to do that playing D&D in Tribes. We would setup all kinds of motion and pulse sensors in order to trip up attackers. Worked great in small corridors. Add a turret or two and you were set.
On a personal level, I find grenade spamming rather dull. I tend to sweep. I'll drop my supply/medic crate at whatever corridor is being defended and go on patrol. I don't like standing still and lobbing down the halls. Realistically, 3 people should be enough to slow down a push in the corridors long enough for 3 other sweepers to come from behind. If there's a large push (more than a squad), this will obviously fall apart. However, if your titan is getting pushed that hard then there will be more than 6 people defending (I would hope).
I have actually held off an entire squad for a good while with recon. You just have to play it smart and lure people into things. Not easy to do against a shitton of regs, but certainly works against the less bright out there.

Re: Defending without the nade spam
Like hadji, I think playing sweeper is more fun than just camping in place. But I'm usually the medic or one of two support guys, which means I've gotta stay put in case someone gets skragged or someone's about to run out of ammo.
Nade spam is perfectly viable, and entirely boring. But if you're playing to win, you do whatever you gotta do, even if it's boring.
But I usually play for fun, myself.

Re: Defending without the nade spam
3 people should be enough, assuming they don't all sit in one spot waiting for a single grenade to take them out. But 4 would do as well, leaving two on sweeps.
Besides, though it seems to be a popular tactic, I can't stand leaving an entire side of the titan free for the taking. A couple people popping into the undefended corridor can go a long way to prolonging titan life.
