Re: Howdy BF2142 squad
so last night somehow i ended up being a squad leader. even though i usually try to avoid since i dont know what im doing half the time im in this game. by the time i figured out how to issue orders the commander had given me another order which ended up being closer to most of my squad than my previous random ass order :9

Coji.... I used to force people like you into the squad leader positions.
Trust me, its good for you. You've got regulars backing you up. You're getting experience as a squad leader. You get crazy points towards the squad leader badges which mean faster promotions and more unlocks. Many of the awards have time requirements that you need to fill as squad leader AND/OR as commander. Might as well get them knocked out early so you can get the awards for the promotion points.
And even better, when you sit in the squad leader position, you understand a bit more of the bigger picture and that makes you ready to step in to the commander seat. Once you sit in the commander seat, you can see how complex BF2142 can be and why communications and following orders is so paramount here.

Re: Howdy BF2142 squad
I used to try and issue orders by bringing up the squad screen and clicking on the map.
Don't do that.
Point your crosshairs at the Number floating in your hub of your Target flag/silo and use your Com-Rose to issue command. It will auto set it to defend if you own it already or attack if you don't. Avoid the "move to" command except in unique situations whan you are trying to get your squad to a gather point to attack from or particular area to sneak past.

Re: Howdy BF2142 squad
I like hitting low flying aircraft with the rorsch Avoid the move comman..you get not points for it. Any kills or points on the way to a defend or attack net you sqaud points, move commands do not.
I had a commander the other night that kept assigning move orders to people. Our squad understood we needed to hold a choke point and assigning a defend order to the nearby flag nets points as long as the squad knows to defends the point and not necessarily the flag. Move orders = crappy squad scores at the end of the game.

At times though, I say screw the points. If I have a move command set, its for tactical reasons. Such as, I want the entire squad on the ridge above South Town on Cerebre. No, don't advance, stay right there and rain rockets and grenades down there.
I will also set move orders for squads to take up positions on the west and east edges of the same ridge. Natural choke points are good places for Move To orders. I'm more worried about the win than I am points. As commander, I'll try to get you an order that generates points, but if I set your squad to be the corner of the east cattle chutes on Gibraltar, then quit resetting it back to defend Toll Station.

Move orders are effective if you want to set a rally point for your squad before you move in on a point. It's also useful if you want to push the defensive perimeter outside the range of the flag. Move points to an actual flag/silo though is just laziness on the SL/Commander. Unfortunately, you have to click on the exact area to get the Attack/Defend option.
Like Laggy said, it's not about points... tactical use of the move command and winning is better than whatever points you may earn with a attack/defend order on a flag and losing the round.

Re: Howdy BF2142 squad
just an fyi to laggy im a master sergeant silver or some shit like that. i used to play this game alot about a year ago, but I was always just going around killing, defending, and capping. never really got into the big picture.
i got the assault class unlocked pretty much all the way through. got the squad beacon, and the non class specific unlocks almost if not all the way to the top.
