yep. demo for 2142 is http://battlefield.ea.com/battlefiel...Demo_News.aspx
and i don't mess with BF2, so i dont want to link you to the wrong thing. But as the regs have said, both of the BF games TTP hosts all have regs who are more than willing to help you or anyone new for that matter, out. Stop by 2142, and you'll always a room in my squad.

    Re: silly noob question

2142 is similar to BF2 with several major improvements.

First, Titan mode. From the silo mad dash to kicking the front doors off the enemy titan to the last stands to hold the core room, there's nothing quite like it in BF2.

Second, No J-10s. Air power is useful, but it is not quite the end all and be all it is in BF2.

Third, we get some really, really, REALLY, shiny gadgets. Infantry/Vehicle sonars, RDX (C4) Launchers for your shotgun, etc. It takes unlocks to get them, but you'll gain your first dozen or so ranks fairly quickly, giving you 12 unlocks to play with.

So, come over to 2142. We've got cookies!

BF2 is a great game. And this is posted in the BF2 forums area so people here MAY be slightly biased.

#1 reason I quit BF2. Air power is over powered. While this is more acurate, it did not make a fun game for me. 2142 Air power is very useful but the ground pounders stand a chance to strike back and bloody the pilots nose.

One thing I really like about 2142 (and I wish BF2 had it) is the hierarchal unlocking system. It allows for a serious customization of your soldier.

Another thing I like about 2142 is that it reinforces actions within order radius. You get more points if you stay on your objective. But the SL needs keep that marker moving for that to happen. It give point whores incentive to be teamplayers instead of chopper soloists.

If BF2 did those two things.. ah man...

I was under the impression that BF2 and 2142 have similar unlock systems?

Way different. 2142 improved on it soooo much.

But I like BF2 better anyway just 'cause the whole futuristic thing aint up my alley.

So... what's the difference? (If I have to sit here for a week waiting for the game to get here, I may as well find out more about it in that time :P) Also, what on earth is this teabagging that everyone keeps talking about?

    Re: silly noob question

In 2142 you start out with very basic stuff. Not even close to the kit's full arsenal.. in fact, you don't even start with grenades.

In BF2 you start off with a full kit, but can unlock improvements to the main weapons (and flashbangs for the assault kit).

in 2142, you get a main weapon, possibly a remedial tool (like the health kit for assault/medic), a sidearm, a knife... am I leaving anything out?  The rest needs to be unlocked. What they've done is increase the amount of ranks (silver and gold for each rank till you get way up in the ranks), but for the beginning ranks, decreased the amount of points needed to rank up (I ranked up 2 or three times my first day playing, I believe, and that was only with a few hours of pay at most), so the unlocks come a bit quicker, cuz you need them much faster to be of any use.

Oh yeah, plus there's 2 tech up "trees" for each kit, each with a slightly different focus.

I'm ashamed to admit that I typed teabagging into Youtube...
