Re: Commanding without a mic are a hindrance

    Hi Gentlemen,

Quite a mixture of opinion is it not?. So it should be. I note that some find it necessary for the commander to have a Mic and of course some find it not.

I believe on a personal level that those who do not use a Mic will get swamped on occasion without using a Mic. However from time to time we have the luxury of the elite squads...so commanding is easy...On the other hand... Bad squad leaders will continue to disco dance on a mountain side some were while there squad is scattered to the four winds. Oblivious to Rome burning, the fall of a kingdom and of course the plight of the TEAM.

As a Commander a word of encouragement go's a long way when trying to persuade a squad leader to pack up and move out. To gather his way ward forces and of course conquer.

When the going is hot you need to talk. Your UAV is helping a squad take and clear a flag. Your scan however has highlighted two or three enemy squads attacking flags. You need to relay this quickly.

" Squad Five single armour and one squad of infantry on your position". "Squad two Two fast movers inbound from the north". You get the gist right?.

Your tools are else were deployed. You have to talk while you spot.

UAV is good for cleaning an area. For information that is around a squad. Talk about the inbounds!. A squad leader needs to know that that armour is on its way. A kit change may well be needed. I have found that squad leaders get miffed just a touch when incoming armour is not mentioned......OR that they are attacking a hot flag.

I have used a screen for what I believe was a very bad start by a commander. Some may argue, maybe not his fought. Or maybe beyond his control. Lets just say I would do this another way.

I would not have used the arty strike on the Four inbounds ( two left). They may have been squad leaders for all I know but I would have spotted these four targets and let the squad deal with them. I would keep an eye on the situation. But as things stand there was no need for the arty and UAV. Quick spot and the squad is all over them like a nasty rash.

As a commander I would not like to have seen two squads locked with only two people in. I would be asking them to invite people in to them. The side I was playing on was doomed from the start. Two squads not worried about team play....A commander that made bad choices in my opinion and of course his eye was of the ball.

While his attention was on the Four fellows marauding along the coast......Helli's were inbound to flags. SO intent was he on one part that it was missed. We were in for a surprise. I took this screen on a hunch. I had noticed things were going bad. Squad three's leader was lying on the beach on his own catching a tan and having a barbi while the rest of his squad had entered a brake dancing competition in four parts of the island at once. Not good. No fire power to call upon. No medical or supply back up. Dam bad.

Airfield and beach was lost quickly. There commander was re laying good Intel and we were in trouble.
We were hammered into the ground. Not nice.

We all have to learn of course and making mistakes is part of it and I am far from perfect. I have a different approach and one I feel works for me.

I am all for the commander to use the Mic. Relay the Intel please.

Its when they are quiet when the ship is sinking I find it annoying. If you have to rely on your assets as a commander and leave when they are destroyed that kind of upsets me as well.

The game is so fast paced that using a mic helps and intel is spread quicker across all squad channels.

I'd rather have no commander than have one without a mic and when some commanders lose the game they leave the commander spot for being a complete FAILURE!

It's hard to lead a squad without a commander using a mic to let the SL's know what flags are in danger of getting capped especially the main flags. I have to keep checking my mini map for possible threat to the main flags and it makes it difficult to concentrate on defending or attacking semi-important flags.

If it's possible to add it on the scrolling text that to command requires a mic.

The proper use of a mic by a commander definitely makes them better. However, if they suck as a commander anyway, they're still going to suck with a mic because they won't know what information to pass on to their S/L and what to keep to themselves. Conversely, if a commander knows what they're doing, they really don't have to have a mic.

I typically use mine to tell SL which flags are the most heavily defended and which are lightly defended. I also use it to tell SL who make a request that I deny, why I'm denying it. If they ask for a vehicle and it's recharging, I tell them how long it will be. If they ask for a UAV and I know from a Scan that the flag is clear, I'll tell them that and follow that up with blind spots around the flag while I'm putting the UAV to better use.
From what i gather though, everyone (admin's included), need to have a cup of shut-the-$%^-up, take a few to chill... - Bunni

I think I jumped out of a jet to challenge one of thos B-boys....

Great discussion on both sides and I 100% agree that if a commander sucks he will still suck even with a Mic. Last night I berated a non Mic using commander....He drops vehicles where nobody needed it. Vehicles are important specifically for an SL, Hell!! 3 SL's in a vehicle while their squad waits to spawn, can cap anything once they get there.
