Re: 2142. Is it worth it?
MoufRoof,
WOW!. You are having the same thought processes as me at the moment. I have been looking on the internet and trying to find a new game. I have cod 4. While I enjoyed the single player game I found multi player to small and poky. A grenade fest. Bored me.
I have had a quick look at Red Orchestra.......A 32 player Russian German shooter which looks quite good. This game looks good, but not as good as BF2.
The thing that puts me off about bf2142 on a personal level is .....I have a problem with fantasy weapons. I like my weapons to be out in the real world. A personal thing.
I really am looking forward to operation flashpoint 2. They have an opportunity here to take away bf2 and pretty much sink it.
Looking at what they have done so far the graphics and physics look awesome.
The one thing I tried to do in BF2 to inject life into it was learn a new kit. I left the medic kit and learnt the sniper kit. I pretty much feel I have learnt that and have started to play medic again. I played one map as medic again last night and posted a gold star......I used to post gold all the time as a medic.....Only one problem. While getting the gold star was fun........I play fps to kill people. Not to bounce medi packs of them.
I will revert back to medi kit as I enjoyed playing it again. SO my sweet laddies. Will ye dance to a new tune with me?.
If you decide to give 2142 a go please let me know what you think. I rate you as one of the good bf2 players and would value your opinion.
You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life. Winston Churchill

Thanks for the compliment Millwall. I've spent alot of time with all the kits on bf2. I usually play medic, at, or support because I think they are the most useful kits. I have been playing engi more, but I prefer carbines over shotguns. Personally, I think the assault kit is useless and sniper is only good on some maps or situations. The only thing the assault kit brings is firepower and contributes nothing else to the team. Specops is a cool kit, but I think you should only play it when you need to blow shit up. Otherwise you should play medic. It's the same gun only in burst fire mode. At least with the med kit you can revive and heal and help out your team.
I might pick up 2142 this weekend. Bestbuy has the deluxe edition for $19.99. For those of you that have it, how does the ranking system work? Does it take forever to level up your player?

Ranks come fast and furious in 2142. That's one thing they DID get right.
Overall, 2142 is a much more balanced game than BF2. Anything that has the potential to be a dominating force (Gunships, walkers, etc) has a counterbalance. You'll also notice that by default, that they merged a couple of the classes.
Assault and medic were merged into a single class. You do not have a defibrillator by default, but it's one of the first 'unlocks' you can pick up.
SpecOps & Sniper were merged into the 'Recon' class. You can have a sniper rifle, APMs (Claymores) and RDX (C4), but there's also an Assault rifle unlock available to you as well.
Engineer and AT were merged. Engineers by default have a guided rocket (like the AT round) and have a blowtorch (wrench) that can repair vehicles and commander assets.
It offers a lot of flexibility, and with the small requirements for ranks, added to the fact that you get points for awards (badges & ribbons) that you earn, you can be a very effective soldier with only a couple hours of playtime.
I still enjoy my time in BF2 when I need a change, but 2142 is where I invest most of my time these days.
