I did have it auto starting up but then it was tracking single player games I was on and I didn't need anyone seeing those depressing numbers... especially the wife.

So far I really only see the use for it on BF2142, the only online game I play. I don't care what servers my buddies are on because I only play on TTP servers. If they are there I will see them, if not I won't.

lastly, (and this really isn't a pity ploy for shameless promotion) I have no buddies yet. Trying to get my 1 "clam mate" (Real life friend that OCCASIONALLY plays) to use it and if he does I will use it more when I am playing Civ4 so he can either play that with me, or let me know he is getting into BF.

You can turn off the games Xfire tracks.

Start it up go to tools and select options from the drop-down menu, click the games tab, click on the game you dont want seen and then on the right side click 'never detect'

A couple things about Xfire that makes it better than other chat system like steam or w/e is that it has in-game screenshot support, in-game Video support(recently out of beta), In-game Voice support, and in-game chat support that works on EVERY game.

I also recommend turning off downloads while you're in game. No need for that ping to suffer.
