Thread: 2142 wont work

i got 2142 for xmas one year, installed and played fine. its been about a year or so since i played and thought id get back into it. now it wont play, i keep gettin a message saying to insert install disc. i thought that its a dvd and the play disc is the install disc. so i removed, reinstalled and patch 1.5. still pops up with the insert disk message. im not to handy on the comp so dont know what to do. :8 :8

Is your CD-ROM working properly? I would suggest uninstalling, running a regscan (like CCleaner) and reinstalling, then patching, then NS (if you have it), then patching again.

it played dvd movies the other day

In general the first thing with an EA game not working is a *complete* uninstall & reinstall. Search here or EA's website for "complete uninstall." Make sure you do the regedit part of the job as well.

Then reinstall game, current full patch file, Northern Strike, and full patch file again.

For this particular error, which is a documented but rare error, first try disconnecting your headset, rebooting, and restarting the game. After multiple reinstalls, forum-searching, and head-banging (not the fun kind) I ran across someone who suggested this, odd as it sounds, and it worked. After that first successful run of the game, I can again use my headset no problem. It's a really weird bug that I've never heard a good explanation for.

If that doesn't work, then go to the full reinstall as described.
