You should play medic or support more often. WAY more points and you can support your team better. The sniper in BF2 is not equal to the sniper on a real battlefield.

I often instruct my squadees NOT to be snipers.

Well my suggestion was not really about getting points, but to point out that snipers are usually not very helpful. The flag goes down and up faster with more units on it. If a full squad moves onto a flag it will be down and up before the enemy can say "damn they took our flag!" But a sniper on a hill in my experience does very little for the team.

Not to get down on you in any way! I love sniper, it is actually my favorite kit to play. But I hardly play it because it is usually only useful when defending a position. Tickets win the game, and being a medic and keeping your squad alive keeps those tickets from dissapearing.

Usually when a sniper takes me out, one of my squadees revives me. This means the sniper may have gotten a kill, but our team did not lose a ticket! Conversely, whenever our squad sees a sniper, we go out of our way to kill them, and usually a sniper is not in a position to be revived easily, meaning that kill is a lost ticket.

When I do play sniper anymore I am a combat sniper, I move with my squad on the ground and move on flags with them. It is hard to have close range fight with a sniper rifle!

When I found TTP, and I started playing as a team to help my team win, I realized that the sniper kit is very specific and is one of the least useful kits to help your team win.

Again, none of this is to get down on anyone, but to enlighten. Sniper's are somewhat useful in defense, they can spot and possibly slow down an incoming squad, and their claymores can act as an early warning device: "My claymore on the flag just went off! there must be bad guys there!" And there are a few "combat snipers" here: Sprint, Himmyo, rv2pc3d, Millwalljames, etc. But a sniper laying on a hill away from the action/flag/objective is dead weight in BF2.

Now in the PR mod, the sniper is someone to contend with. You get shot by a sniper, you bleed out and die! In BF2, you get revived or run away to find a med pack.

Just my $0.02, if you read a lot of the threads in the past here you will see a lot of discussion on this.

I did play "combat sniper" couple of times yesterday, when i was running around with Reject_wolf and a couple of others, sure is harder then being "long range" as im used to, but it helped me get a few kills with gun and knife.. :P I guess if i sharpen my close combat skills with gun and knife, i might turn out as an efficient asset to the squad..

The pistol is great, aim for center mass, keep firing, eventually you will hit the head as your aim drifts upward! the pistols are pretty accurate too, I have succesfully sniped with them when playing the AT kit.

But.. we are now threadjacking!

There are topics about "most usefull kit" etc buried in past pages. If you use the search function you can probably find them. They are packed with great information about all the kits, including sniper.
