    TTP BF2 "prob with connection"

I haven't seen any PB's errors lately. But now everytime I try connect to TTP, within the first minute I get the "problem with your connection" crap, and then it goes away for a few seconds, and then lags again, and goes away, and it usually takes 3 or 4 messages before it completely looses my connection and drops me back to the BF2 menu.

    Any ideas?

    TTP BF2 "prob with connection"

Re: TTP BF2 "prob with connection"

I had that same problem back in 2006, and I know this is going to sound totally off the wall but... Here's the story. I had been playing BF2 on a nightly basis for a year before this happened. Normally I would close out all processes except for the bare minimun about 8 or so would be running. Then I would launch TeamSpeak, then BF2. One day logged on to get my BF2 fix and BAM... every 10 seconds or so I would get that damn connection message, and lagged my ass off, eventually it would result in a crash, and on TS every one was cutting in and out, and same when I tried to talk to them. I had a pretty good rig, and a super fast business class cable connection, so I figured none of that was the prob, uninstalled reinstalled BF2 rinse repeat etc etc, to no avail, still had the prob.

Now I know, as most likely you do as well, there are many things that can mess up games. Drivers, bad timing on the ram, overclocking issues yadda yadda yadda. I updated all drivers, bought new ram with all the right timings. even tried a diff NIC(network card) still the same thing. Well.. get this I had a SB Audigy card, read lots of forums where ppl had probs with BF2, most all driver related. My card had worked great, and still sounded awesome, worked in all other games, and played MP3's. After closer inspection (with the help of a componet level electronic tech friend of mine) there was a small IC that had something to do with the preamp on my sound card, was fried, literally. The stupid card still worked, I have my rig running through a home sourround sound system, and it sounded and worked great. Lo' and behold new sound card, bye bye connection issues in BF2.

    CRAZY RIGHT!

Moral to this story, if you have a bunch of parts laying around, take the time to check all avenues when trying to resolve this issue. No matter how silly it may seem, there are a tons of things that can cause this problem in BF2. Don't know what your problem is since I can't lay hands on it, but if your like me, and nothing pisses you off more than not being able to play your fav game, it's worth the effort. Beats chunking it out the front door, or taking a large hammer to your rig.

Good luck fixing your prob, and if you need any help email me, or i'm sure many other people here, would be willing to lend a hand. Some with more knowledge and skills than me i'm sure.

    Happy Fragging,
    Ax

ps.. Forgot to mention up above, the whole reason for that long speech. Pretty much anything that makes your CPU cycle too high, and takes priority away from BF2, makes the game unhappy. You can check/set priority levels in the same screen you look at your processes running, just right click on each.

You may wish to try to update punkbuster, do not ask me why but I have had issue with losing connection to the server and running punkbuster update fixed it. Available here http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=pbsetup.php

Re: TTP BF2 "prob with connection"

Been having a similar problem for about a month now, did some tracerts and have found the Savis route backbones on the east, east central and south areas have been fubared for me connecting from the west coast.

My latency has doubled connecting to the servers now in Texas, and a DoD server in Chicago. It has resulted in occasional game freezes, and disconnects, and a hard time trying to shoot people with a 180 ping, compared to 89 a month ago. No problems with PB though.

Until the routes clear up, I won't be able to play much here or very well.
