Red broken speaker icon when i talk

so my squadmates seem to hear me okay but for some reason i get that red broken speaker icon every time i start to talk. i got a new rig so i'm wondering if there's something not quite right like my messages getting cut off, volume is too loud, or whatever..

usually get this icon if 2 people are trying to talk at once.

i kept asking and people said they heard me okay.. musta sounded like i was stoned last night.

anybody have ideas? anybody i played with last night hear anything goofy?

I dont recall squadding with you, but that red broken speaker icon means the sound is, as you guessed, too loud. It is distorting or breaking up. If peeps in your squad said it was fine, then maybe you should leave it. It might not be distorting that badly, may just be on the threshold. You could try to bring your mic volume back a touch in BF2 sound options or move the mic a bit further away from your mouth and see if that helps.

I used to get that all the time. Nobody had troubles hearing me though, clarity/volume-wise at least

With me, for whatever reason, people can't hear me that well UNLESS I'm getting the broken speaker telling me my gain is "too high", so I just ignore it. In your case, unless someone says you're breaking up and all choppy, I'd not worry about it overly much.

Think it also has to do with your mic and picking up ambient noise.. The red is trying to block it as much as possible maybe? I know when my fan is on I have a constant red and green going like a strobe light but It seems to work fine.. when the fan is over its a constant green

The "problem" is typically that the BF2 in-game sound engine doo-hickey is very sensitive to fast gain changes; sibilants like "S" and "P" tend to make it tap out, probably due to some bad dynamic ranging code or something.

Listen to yourself with the bf2voipsetup.exe program in the base BF2 directory. If you sound like a sane human being there, you sound like one on the other end; if you're too loud or quiet, you can tell immediately. Forget what the little speaker says.

If you're talking about what I think you're talking about, none of that is the case.

When you key up in BF2, you initially see a green speaker icon which indicates that you are keyed up. The red "broken" icon indicates that you are actually transmitting sound. The difference is to let you know when you are simply keyed up and when you are actually transmitting "noise".
