PnkbstrB.exe....

Ok, I have been having problems with my Punkbuster....

Only punkbusterB though. I join the game, and, before i can even spawn, i get the message "Handshake failure with PnkBstrB.exe" and i get booted. i tried starting the program manuallly, but it just exits out 5 seconds after i start it.

Any ideas how to fix it?

You may need to upgrade or just make sure your firewall or whatever anti-virus thing you have runnin isn't blocking PB from connecting with the servers PB.

Something else if you are running XP then you might need to do the following:
Start menu
Control Panel
administrative tools (if you don't see this then on the left side you should see an option to "switch to classic view")
Services
Go down the list to punkbuster and see if B is on the list if not then reinstall
After you reinstall go back and set it to AUTO

This requires a manual update of punkbuster. If you don't have PBSETUP.EXE, you can find it on www.punkbuster.com. Download it to a folder on your desktop and run it. You'll need to add BF2 to the game list. Then update your Punbuster.

Should this not cure the problems, check to make sure that your firewall allows PunkbusterA.exe full access as well as BF2.exe of course.

Finally, should that not cure your probs, you need to check the services on your pc. Click on Start...Run....type in Services.msc.

This brings up a panel of all the services on your pc (whether they are running or not). Scroll down and find PunkBuster. Make sure that it is set to either MANUAL (if it is called upon, 2 programs will start up (e.g. services), PunkBstrA and B.exe, or AUTO (which means they will start up every time you boot).

When you're done playing, open up your task manager, and you may safely end the two processes, PunkbstrA and PunkbstrB.

I had a devil of a time trying to join any server over the weekend. I finally looked at my services and found that punkbuster was DISABLED.

Hey hunter another thing a friend showed me is a manual Punkbuster updater you can get from the net and just type Punkbuster Manual updater in google and it works like a charm
