Lesson Learned About Commanding
It seems like some commanders abuse the artillery on alot of maps whereas i dont know if im doing it right but I really dont use artillery that much.
Maps like Sharqi and other smaller maps I use it alot but on bigger maps i tend to use the UAV and manual spotting more. Instead of using artillery every chance i get i tend to spot infantry in the area and hold off on the arty until some huge force directs their attention.
In my opinion artillery is best used for example...
There is a horde of people coming from canyon guard to west mine and the defense at west mine wont hold them off forever. So i tell squads to get ready to spawn at west mine and meanwhile i drop the arty somewhere inbetween canyon and west mine (most likely at the Road) I think this gives enough time to delay the attack on west mine so we can get more people spawned at west so we have a stronger defense.
I dont know if what im saying makes sense but in a strategical sense i think this is the best way to use the artillery.
Remember its not always about getting kills with arty its about keeping people away from a certain location for a small period of time.

You've got the right idea Commander!!
The very fact that you're already thinking strategically about using arty as a barrier tool and not as a way to decrease ticket count or rack up kills shows your proficiency. Well done!
Personally, I like it when squad leaders call the arty strike request and I always give it to them if I have it since they're the ones going for the flag. I make sure I award it to the squads that are actually "pushing" for a control point be it flag or choke point. Arty is a very unique creature - sometimes you suck with it and get a rack of TKs and sometimes you score big time.
Last night at around 21h 30 EST - on Jalalabad - that game was intense. I Commanded for USMC and we lost 0-2. It was an incredibly close game every step of the way. Good times!! It's so hard to leave TTP and go to bed when the teams are balanced and the games are that close. arrrrgh....alas work schedule wins every time.

I'm not the best at using Artillery. It's a timing issue for me. Every map is a little different. Depends on how far away the shot is going to be as to how quick it gets there. Optimal timing does the most damage and is by far the most demoralizing. Have you ever been nailed so many times by artillery that you don't know what to do? It can have that affect on the players from the new to the old timers. I've misfired my artillery attempting to drop a UAV, that is a bummer. One other thing, sometimes there are players that get in very good spots on a map. I've seen enemy or friendly commanders who attempt to root them out with Artillery, it's a waste of an artillery shot. If the guy is enough of a problem then send a squad in after him.
If I had one good piece of advice from me to you about commanding. Get your ass somewhere relatively safe {dead commanders aren't of much value}, then command your ass off, & don't fret too much over the enemy attempting to take out your assets. As a commander, you are the compass for your team. If you allow the enemy to make you send valuable squads that could be capturing or defending much needed flags {to force a ticket bleed} back to your main, then you have just left the door wide open and they will retake those flags in a heart beat. The more flags you have the more fronts you have for them to attack/defend against. More times than not, a good ticket bleed out will force the enemy into having to recapture flags, therefore freeing up your assets to be repaired. Little note: don't be afraid to drop a supply crate on an asset to repair it.
