yea, I always say, dude, I got a dud.

stupid question= how do I find out the power supply?

would the lower grade xfx need a better power supply? will I need better cooling?

Thanks for the help guys, it helps alot.

    Re: FPS LOW!!

youll have to open the comp up and look at the pwr supply..it should have it labeled on there somwhere in plain sight.

FYI the XFX is the better of the 2 cards i posted...the sapphire is lower....they both require a minimum of 450watt for their respective power supplies.

See what that does for you. I'm assuming you put them on when you put everything on high. They are hard on the system compared to the other stuff. If that fails,
Will this affect my gameplay? I will try this when I play next. thanks

If you got on shadows, turning them off with make you play better since people blend into dark corners. Anti-Analysis eats the most memory though because its smooths out objects, unless you plan on getting point blank range and staring at the pretty jet you prob. won't notice. I think lighting is about the same as shadows, you won't notice.

Yes to the first part...WTF to the 2nd. Why would he have to downgrade a component that has nothing to do with system performance OR fps loss??!

...Theres only one thing I need to know, how many Watts is the power supply those guru's at dell put in there for ya?
As a matter of fact, in the BF2 game, if you crank the audio up to high and you are not running a stand alone sound card with memory on board it will affect gameplay. If you try to set your in game audio to 'hardware' it gets even worse. So yes, it does seriously affect gameplay. I went to a stand alone audio card {Creative Xtreme Gamer} and I can at least go 'hardware' and 'medium' with 'X-Fi' and 'EAX' on. But if someone is running onboard audio, they need to stick with 'software' and 'medium'.

He does have a valid point with his statement about the power supply. Most pre-built systems have shit for a power supply. When gaming and running more powerful video cards as well as many peripherals you definitely need to make sure you are at least running a 500+ watt power supply. I have a 500 Watt and my system does just fine. Another thing to do is to download PCWizard and make sure your POWER Supply is running proper voltage, as that can affect gameplay especially if it's low on the voltage to your motherboard or components since when you play they consume more power. This past fall I had a power supply that was dropping to 11.88 & 10.88 on the voltage while gaming. Needless to say it was a bitch to diagnose. It made gameplay hell for BF2 & PR. Once I replaced the power supply {warranted that bitch out}, everything got a lot better.
THX for backing me up there bravo ..... some people just dont understand how much the processor is used when channeling the onboard sound.

Onboard sound is very processor intensive.

PSU 450 watts today can run a GTX 285 with only minor hiccups ... all that matters with PSU's is .... dont skimp

Computers have sound cards for a reason... Its to take the strain off of the processor... (which is a huge part of getting FPS)

Graphics cards are not the only thing that affect FPS... There are quite a few ... let me mention some

    Sound cards help fps
    Threading processors help fps
running 2 exact models of ram per bus help fps
    Using USB headsets affect fps
using ingame applications (X-fire) affect fps

The most important thing in the world for a FPS guru ( the person that wants to max everything out ) is.....................

    SHADERS!

If you want good frames in everything you play forceware is a must and i suggest you use it on everything.

Demon the best piece of advice for you is ....... if you have PCI-e buy an 8800gt .. there like 100 or less and there fantastic.
