Re: How do you approach your maps?
I really couldn't see a reason to jump jet on a few maps. Any Assault map on the defending side, Fu She Pass, PLA side on Dalian, Zetar is a toss up to do it on you get it, you get a chopper, but with one less plane in the sky, that means the helicopter probably wont come off the pad. Although, I FULLY agree that F35s (on some maps), and bomber pilot seats should be used for squad leads. I usually try and tell the teammates to let the Squad leads take the F35s on Wake or Dragon Valley for example. Just if I ever saw a guy use a J-10 on Dalian to get a flag, I would definitely question the choice considering the threat they are to any helicopter, boat, F35 and flag.
To summarize, tell the newbies that the F35s on Wake Island are used to get to the airfield if you are a squad lead.

Re: How do you approach your maps?
Well Based on the fact that My stats show exactly 1 second as an Aviator I can assure you that I mostly Ground Pound. I have a little over an hour in a heloBut and no kills so even though I do fly helo's I am no threat. Most maps my Kit selection is based on the terrain, Karkand for example I will normally go with Medic or Sniper. On Wide open or Heavy Vehicle maps I will run with AT. I also use Assault a fair amount.
But I normally evaluate what the squad needs when I choose my kits, And sometimes I even have to be Support yuck
