Re: Squad Rules (Allow Squad Names to Reserve Assets)
If the admins don't want to enforce this system, that's certainly their prerogative, but those of you arguing against the system of naming squad assets have missed the reasons it was suggested by the OP.
Reasons to do it:
-the most fun and successful servers use this system
-it works smoothly and is enforced by the regular players themselves as well as admins
-it contributes to organized teamplay
-most people who play PR mean well and follow the system - they don't create more squads than there are assets available, because it is first-come first served, and they are not idiots.
THE MAIN BENEFIT= the system simply organizes the team before the round starts (in those couple of minutes before you start, you know who your transport choppers are for the round, who has got APC's and who to ask for a ride, if you need more infantry, if you need logistics drivers, etc.) Most regular players scan the squad list and create a squad to fill a need that is left or join a squad that interests them. If you already have a sniper/recon squad, some random asshat in an infantry squad is less likely to grab a sniper kit and be useless to everyone. If he does, he gets kicked. If the squad exists, he may join it, and actually learn how the kit is useful.
An infantry squad that suddenly decides to become an armour squad halfway through the round (without telling anyone) leaves a gaping hole in the team's strategy. On a good server with this system, this is what pisses people off, not the loss of the asset so much.
The arguments that there should always be a commander and he should do this, organize the team, tell players which squad to join or leave, assign assets and police it all in the three minutes before the round starts (or even shortly after) are frankly bullshit. A voluntary system works much faster and better on a pub server, and creates a workable team structure very efficiently. The commander can then adjust this structure however they want and set a larger strategy. This leads to much better and more competitive games.
Should you follow commander orders? Yes. Should an armour squad stop standing around waiting for their tanks to respawn and go ground pound when the commander sends them out to defend South Village? Absolutely. Should they decide to do so on their own after naming their squad "Tanks"? No, absolutely not. Does this happen on the squad-named-assets servers? No, not very often.
@Raddarrat - did you read the manual?

Re: Squad Rules (Allow Squad Names to Reserve Assets)
It's been my observation that this usually happens anyway. People name their squad and people choose to join it or not based on how it is named. I will almost never join an air squad unless for some reason all the other squads are full. It usually works itself out.
I can tell you that we are not going to do this. All it does is create an elitist attitude on the server and this is one of the main reasons TTP was formed. I can guarantee you that this will turn into certain people grabbing the command slots and getting their buddies into the positions they want and f**k everyone else. This is directly contrary to teamplay.
If you are so concerned about helping the server to get better, then start training. Bring new people into your squad instead of locking it up and inviting the same people in over and over. Be a teacher and not a leecher.

I had several arguments last night as commander about who should get the attack choppers on Kashan. I gave them to the CLEARLY MARKED AONO Havok squad, but the arguments still continued.
I also find it infuriating that people cannot seem to read, such as when I get people in my CLEARLY MARKED infantry squads that want to be pilots or snipers.WHEN LIFE GIVES YOU LEMONS, BURN DOWN LIFE'S HOUSE

The argument continued because we were TKed by Wheeze and Dotless because we took the Havok, as ordered by you, the commander.

To be perfectly clear here:
Assets are first come, first serve.
Commanders should issue orders to squads based on their current composition. Squads should try to do everything within their power to follow the orders of the Commander.
Locked.
