Need help, BF2 refuses to work....

So here's the scoop. About a year ago, I uninstalled BF2 after an extended break (fell in love with World in Conflict). Between then and now, my DVD was broken, and I had no way to reinstall. Flash forward to Thursday. After missing BF2 for a while, I decided to rebuy the game. I love Steam and Direct2Drive, so I figured a direct download would be the way to go.

Not so, after back and forth support tickets, I finally got BF2 to launch today. It was having an issue detecting that I was connected to EADM, but whatever. I now have a new problem. I cannot get into any multiplayer games. Every time I do, I get an error saying that my CD-Key is invalid. I have Googled and tried various fixes, none of which have been effective.

Could my old CD key from the DVD be conflicting with my new version? I did retrieve my old account (the one the Euro/Armored expansions are linked to), so I could see that being a problem. Would deleting that account, then setting up a new one with the same e-mail solve the issue? Would that delete the expansions? Thanks in advance.

Re: Need help, BF2 refuses to work....

When I originally uninstalled the DVD version, no I did not. However, during this process, I have installed/uninstalled the game 10+ times between Thursday and today, and each time I went through files deleting all traces of BF2. Funny thing was, after all of this deleting, the reason for the original EADM error was me forgetting to set EADM to administrator :P.

Another thing, I have checked through regedit, and the old BF2 key is not on my computer. I have sent an EA support request, but I expect a cookie cutter answer.

ugh** okay people LIMIT the number of programs you add to your computer and DAMN WELL LIMIT the number of time and number of programs you uninstall. NOTHING is full erased form you comupter till you take a magnet and run it across you OPEN hardrive and even then it is technicaly not gone although you harddrive is history. I don't deal with downloaded games or steam but i do know that what you did is likely leading to your problems. Not being able to tinker and toy with your computer all i can do for you is to inform you of that up there and that next time use add/remove program. Also set a restore point before every game you install.

    To create a Restore Point
Access the System Restore Wizard through Help and Support Center.
Click Create a restore point, and then click Next.
In the Restore point description box, type a name to identify this restore point. System Restore automatically adds to this name the date and time that this Restore Point is created.
To finish creating this restore point, click Create.
To cancel restore point creation and return to the Welcome to System Restore screen, click Back.
To cancel restore point creation and exit the System Restore Wizard, click Cancel.
    Notes

To access the System Restore Wizard, click Start, and then click Help and Support. Click Performance and Maintenance, click Using System Restore to undo changes, and then click Run the System Restore Wizard.
Creating a restore point can be useful any time you anticipate making changes to your computer that are risky or might make your computer unstable.
To view or to return to this restore point, from the Welcome to System Restore screen of the System Restore Wizard select Restore my computer to an earlier time. Then select the date when the restore point was created from the calendar in the Select a Restore Point screen. All of the restore points that were created on the selected date are listed by name in the list box to the right of the calendar.
