Infantry Squad Movement in BF2142 + Recon SM's Role
I was in a squad with some of the regulars last night. We were on the Fall of Berlin map, I think. The SL was not a regular that I have seen. bigdog was attempting to explain to the SL that he needed to stay alive for the squad to keep pushing and driving to our objective. The SL kept running ahead and staying in front of the squad and then dying right away.
I have teamed with some of you before but my question is what do you think about this suggestion...
I play Recon a lot and when I'm with a squad that is pushing I usually whip out the Lambert and push with them.
I think it makes sense, if there is one in the squad, to have the Recon squad member to take point. Here are some of the reasons I think this is a good ideal:
- Lambert Carbine is more effective short range than long range. If you can get close enough with a Lambert you have a good shot against most other classes
- Recon SM's cannot rez SM's so their dying is less harmful to the team overall. If there is an Assault rezzer or two then they can always rez the Recon SM if he falls.
- Sneaky/strategic APM placement while on the move in a squad. Nothing is more annoying/demoralizing to sjt.... err.... I mean the opposing team than killing you only to have themselves blown to bits a couple of seconds later. I especially like to drop an APM mine or two if I already know there are more than 1 nme around the corner.
- If the squad is met by some type of vehicle, the Recon SM who is on point will be able to try and RDX the vehicle giving the Squad's Engineers more time to set up and throw mines and/or shoot AT rounds at the vehicle.
These are my reasons for asking a Recon SM to run point for a squad.
What do you think??

Lol, what can I say, I'm kick ass with the recon kit, but other then that I could agree with recon taking point, but then again if I were leader I probably would rather have assault take point.
Just for the quicker matter that if the recon has a sniper rifle what good would he be taking point, but if he indeed has a Lambert Carbine(weapon of choice) he should definitely take point.

RE: Infantry Squad Movement in BF2142 + Recon SM
i'd have to say that the support should take point. the LMG's are effective at pretty much all ranges (mg-sniping, anyone? :P ), and for city maps or titan assault, the shotgun is just vicious. besides, i'd rather have that medic keep his ass back to keep the squad in one piece, and i'd like the AT boys to stay alive long enough to rape any vehicles we may come across. recon... is kind of an oddball in an offensive squad. recon is more of a defensive class, or, depending on your loadout, a sneak-across-the-map-and-nuke-the-enemy-commander-assets class.

RE: Infantry Squad Movement in BF2142 + Recon SM
support or assault would be best to lead. support having the big guns; assault being them most versatile class. maybe even a double lead team of a support and assault.
then another assault in the backfield for general protection, and for healing/revives.
perhaps a recon to try and keep an 'overview', and maybe leaving a apm or two, so noone sneaks behind.
and an eng/at in the mix to take care of vehicles.
with a support to help with suppressive fire/to cover the rear, and resupply.
leads - support/assault
grouping - assault
grouping - recon
grouping - eng
rear/suppression - support
oh, and making sure your mic isnt muted helps out a little too when youre trying to talk to the squad... <cough>trot<cough> :P
