To add to ems goof's post.
Always hold spawn when joining a game/squad.
Let the comm traffic die down and ask the SL what he needs or if you should hold spawn.
Be patient as the SL might be in a firefight or otherwise unable to answer instantly.
If it is a 2 man squad and they don't have medic.....well you know what to do then.
On many maps the whole squad but 1 shovel and SL should often hold spawn until a RP is dropped outside the base.
This allows the SL to take a supply truck and bomb straight to the objective w/o waiting for kit selection and transport SNAFU's.

This is a GREAT trick, but I almost feel guilty doing it

Holding your spawn is nice and all when you join the game, but it doesn't always work like that...

    (unable to join a squad)

    Join game-----can't join squad----need to spawn.----then join a squad...meet up with squad...

    Happens more often than not.

oh yeah, that is just the ideal.
I thought of another SL tip, an addition to what I said before about markers.
    USE them.
If you see something, mark it with observe and have another sm check to see if it is blue.
Also remember when your sm call out a target, open caplok map, click on them and then drop and observe marker where you think his contact was.
Then ask the person who reported it to correct your marker.
"Enemy 210" ...doesn't really mean much without a range, so always try to remind your sm to give bearing and range, even if it is just "near" or "far".
