No not fishing longcasting on dry land to see how far you can throw. These are professionally run longcasting tournaments. You will see cast as far as possibly over 800' if conditions are good. There will definately be some cast over 700'.

:6 Brink, I looked up on line and looks like fun. Dose it cost a lot to be in that hobby. By the way dose any body every hit anybody with those long sticks. It looks like if you have one in your hand and just turn, you could hit some one pretty hard. shoot you later evilblackjack :4

Well my friend the cost depends on how serious you take it. Full competition rods can cost alot of money as well as the reels(not to mention line, special weights and all the other little things you need). Most top rods are made in the UK by either Zziplex or Century. The blanks alone for these rods can cost up to $800.00 new(that's not counting the best guides and assmbly). You can find them built already used for around $400.00 and up. The reels are highly modified ABU garcia reels capable of spool speeds in excess of 40,000 rpms. A 4 1/2 or 5 1/4 oz weight will leave the rod tip on a good cast at speeds of 200 mph so it can be very dangerous(this is why we have strict rules in place for safety). Not to mention if a lead weight travelling at this speed hit someone down field(fortunetly we have had no accidents). No we haven't hit anyone else with our rods either. You cast one at a time in turn, then we all reel down field and mark our cast together. No one is allowed down field while casting is in progress and no one may cast while someone is still down field or in the way. Like I said, these are profesionally run tournaments. I think you would enjoy it and will be amazed how far we cast when you come out. I talked to Matt Scooby last night and he and his misses are going to try to make Saturday the 24th so hope to see you there.
Not to scare you off, you can get in cheaper. These prices are just what top equipment cost.

Casting starts both days at 9:00am(I will be there both days at about 8oam to set up). We break for lunch at around noon and usually cast till around 4opm or till everyone has had enough. Feel free to ask people questions(we are always happy to get new people interested). Hope to see ya there.
