BF2 on Steam on sale 50% off

Help!
Installed on steam and try to join as soon as I hit the button to connect to a game server it just goes to desktop. Like BF2 was never even running.

I am sure it is piled somewhere in the bf2 forum but I never have read them and not sure what to look for.

I also tried to start single player, it opptimized shaders or something like that, got to 100% waited a second and crash to desktop.

Are you running as administrator in Windows XP compatability mode?

Sounds like a corrupt profile to me. Go into your My Documents and rename the 'Battlefield 2' folder to 'Battlefield 2.old' and restart the game.

Will try when I get home, messed with it at lunch a little.
Oh and I am running vista 64 as administrator.

Every time I select a server as soon as i click to join, black screen flashes and back to desktop.

I have no idea about anything, I browsed the steam forums and tried a few things there with no luck.
