Possible to do a CD free patch?
Greetings,
Long time no see TTP. I picked up a new laptop to allow me to own the skies over 2142 once again. However, being clumsy and forgetful makes it potentially dangerous to carry around the 2142 CD with me all the time in said laptop. Is there any legit way of getting around this?
TIA,
Tex

Maybe an image of the CD?
Otherwise, I don't really know. I thought someone had something like that... but I don't know.

Re: Possible to do a CD free patch?
Right, there are basically "cracks" using the word lightly that replace the exe with one that does not look for the CD... however I would really not like to get banned/expelled/tarred and feathered
In addition I'm sure I could image the CD and use a virtual CD drive to mount it to...
Anyone have any success in this?

Rumor has it that, BF 2142 1.51 patch will have no cd requirements. I'd wait and see.

Here is the link to the rumor mill: http://forums.electronicarts.co.uk/b...l#post11975444
I'm going to try the image and I'll post up what I find out... granted it may or may not apply to everyone since I'm on Windows 7 which seems to be working fine so far... Now if only I can get Charter to give me a reliable low ping signal I'll be golden.

Using anything but an official fix from DICE pending with the 1.51 patch runs the risk of you being busted by PunkBuster, which means immediate excommunication from TTP. This includes 'mini-images' and cracked executables (which by the way are illegal, and not something that should be discussed here at TTP.)
