Anyone have trouble getting Sound Blaster X-fi to work?
it hangs on me whenever i goto audio settings, set provider to "creative x-fi", then hit apply. tried just about everything but i always end up killin it in task manager.
also tried to find the .con file to see if i can manually set it but can't seem to find the right one. anyone know which file to use on vista?
it does accept "hardware" as the provider but doesn't allow ultra high setting like it does with "creative x-fi".
using
vista 64
sound blaster x-fi titanium
ati 4850

In Audio.con (open with notepad or wordpad), which is in:
C:\Users\<username>\Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\<number, usually 0001>\Audio.con
Try changing the appropriate lines to read:
Code:AudioSettings.setProvider "creative" AudioSettings.setSoundQuality "UltraHigh"

Re: Anyone have trouble getting Sound Blaster X-fi to work?
Make sure your settings in sb x-fi control panel are set to game mode, the other 2 will not work. As a side note if you go into bf2 not in game mode(in x-fi panel) it will reset your settings to software mode or something weird. Which you have to then close out of bf2 and change your setting to game mode then re-adjust ingame settings again.
Since BF2 uses OPenAL you do not need alchemy for this game.

Re: Anyone have trouble getting Sound Blaster X-fi to work?
dang. tried both and it didn't work.
- game wouldn't even start if i manually modify the audio.con
always had it on game mode. didn't really change anything from default
what i did find out is that this isn't BF2 specific. tried to set to eax5.0 in medevial total war 2 and it says selected hardware is not recognized. at this point i'm guessing it has something to do with left over drivers from the onboard audio i was using before installing this card.
trying to get something from the creative labs forum but this may be one of those needle in a haystack things.
ty very much for the response! lemme know if ya'll have any other ideas before i install vista from scratch.. been meaning to do it on a different driver anyways..

Re: Anyone have trouble getting Sound Blaster X-fi to work?
Your problem isn't with BF2, your problem is with Vista.
I have a Xtreme gamer card and never use the software to run it. I just DL'd these files: "Creative Audio Control Panel", "Creative Console Launcher", and "Creative Auto Software Update". That seems to work fine for me.
**Important** - You do not want to be making any sound adjustments in the Creative software during the game. This will generate audio issues with your card and Vista.

Re: Anyone have trouble getting Sound Blaster X-fi to work?
in my particular case, it was openal and the fact that i'm using spdif.
- once i installed openal, it allowed me to select "creative x-fi" and "ultra high".
- somehow the signal being sent to my spdif changed when i did this. works fine if u send the output to regular speakers.
