Not sure what you mean, but when System Recovery went through it had me go through the processes of uploading a new name and the HP software to the computer again, as well as the fucking annoying internet sign-up pop-ups.

If you have a recovery disc, reformat your HDD. I did that today and now my PC is back up and running.

I crashed a few weeks ago and had to reinstall everything even though I had a backup.
I did not have any MD5 problems and the Alt-Tab CTD problem went away.
You might try reinstalling your games from the CD before you spend money on the HD repair.

Reinstalling from CD doesn't work. As I said in the original post, one of my games can't even reinstall at all and the other still doesn't work after installation.

You could save a lot of headache (or cause some...) if you just take your disk, and re-install windows.

This is NOT System recovery. System recovery works like this...

Think of files on your computer as Rooms in a House... You have hallways between the rooms (This is the registry). When you do a system recovery, it goes back to some "old blueprints" of the hallways (but the rooms stay the same). This can cause some problems (or fix some). This will remove the connection to a room. But this may also create a connection to a room (the hallway was destroyed somehow).

The problem you had initially STRONGLY suggests to reinstall windows. And I will make you a bajillion pictures on how to do so if you are seriously interested. I just need to know your OS.
