Gaming rig about to die
The last time I played the game getting really choppy, almost unplayable. I thought it might be getting hot so i took the cover off and blew it out, wasn't much dust in there but then I noticed a faint clicking noise, I thought for a second that maybe it was just my pacemaker failing, then I remembered I don't have a pacemaker, so it must be something bad, sure enough my hard drive was making the click of death. Any suggestions what drive I should get? I'm gonna dump vista and upgrade, yes I mean upgrade, to XP, unless windoze 7 works better, is anyone using 7 yet?

Re: Gaming rig about to die
I believe bob is running windows 7 without issue as well as a few others. Someone else should be able to give you recommendations on hard drives but unless you are looking for a solid state drive, they are relatively inexpensive even for nice ones. Newegg.com is a great place to go, just sort by "Best Reviewed" and you should find one at a super reasonable price with a million 5 star reviews, thats usually a good one to go with.

Re: Gaming rig about to die
Are you a cheap bastard? Get a standard, normal 7200RPM drive with at least SATAII (aka SATA 3.0Gbps) and enough space to hold all of your massive horse porn collection stuff.
Are you slightly less cheap, but still just as bastardly? Get a Velociraptor drive.
Do you have an overwhelming desire to tear the doors off your car and press your tongue to the pavement? Seek professional help.
Is money no longer an object and you're obsessed with lightning fast performance? Get an SSD, especially an Intel SSD. Although if going this route, I recommend you either stick with Vista or definitely move up to 7, for the improved partitioning and native support for TRIM (keeps the drive at like-new performance by preemptively cleaning previously deleted blocks).

Re: Gaming rig about to die
I am running Win 7 now and it seems quite good. I just get the odd stutter. Perhaps thats a server issue. That reminds me...thanks.
