Yup that is one of the first things in the settings that I change. The default is way too difficult to see if there is a lot of smoke or explosions in your FOV. Same applies to long range shots. The default reticule/crosshair is easily obscured in the haze of distance.

Another way to learn Tank strategy(where to be, how to effectively fight) is to follow someone who is really good with it. Best person I've seen is named DeathTouch. I believe he's number 3 in the world with the Tiger. Learned quite a bit from him.
