Thread: Pre-load to begin this weekend.

Apparently Steam is releasing later than everyone else because they can only release the product when the publisher says so. EA told them 10am PST on 3/2. EADM & D2D both had a pre-load and were activated early. I'm sure this is all a big ploy by EA to force people into buying from EA or D2D (who is owned by IGN/Gamespy) for a reason. Brick & mortar stores are only bound by the 3/2 date, so midnight sales are perfectly kosher.

The hate shouldn't be directed at Steam, it should be directed at EA. Valve/Steam are doing what their contract with EA states they should do.

Just remember folks, EA hates you.

*sigh* Fucking EA.

At least I won't be able to play anyways until late tonight. I'll just leave Steam open while I'm at school and hopefully by the time I get home it should all be downloaded and ready to go.

I read a similar theory in the steam forums and this idea might be true.

The higher ups at EA know what they are doing......


It sucks about the wait but its better to have the game on steam than some shady D2D.

Any guesses on how fast the D/L speed will be when steam releases?

My guess is 250kb/sec.

I agree. I trust Steam more than EADM (since I know it sucks) and D2D (since I've never used it or heard much good about it).

It is a good move by EA/Dice though. Try to convince people that Steam sucks so that they'll stop buying off of Steam and use their crappy EADM.

As for the speed, if everyone does what I'll be doing and let it run while we're at work/school, I'm assuming it'll go pretty slow, like 100kb/sec if we're lucky.

I'm just hoping that it'll be finished by the time I get home tonight which won't be until about 8-9pm CST.

I generally max out my bandwidth when Steam is downloading at 1.5Mb/s, even on big releases.

I have comcast and have hit 2.1Mb/s down on every game but then that boost bullshit dies out and it caps out around 800Kb/s.

Since everybody will be downloading this at once I assume it will drop another 300kb/s.

So what, I don't see a server over there, <--------------, so there is nowhere to play even if I could DL it this very second. :P

2 hours Valve time.
