don't think 1.4 is needed twice
I stand corrected. I went and got the deluxe version cause I hate dancing.

This is caused by the order that Northern Strike and the Patches were applied in.
Following this installation order should correct this error:
1. Install the base 2142 game, either off the CDs, or from the download center.
2. Install 1.40
3. Install Northern Strike.
4. Reinstall 1.40
5. Do Incremental 1.50 patch (1.40 --> 1.50 patch)
Some people just need to reapply the latest patch, some have had to reinstall to clear this up.

Re: Installing BF2142 on the new machine...
Quoting Readme File in "C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142\Support"
"
The simplest installation method is to use the Battlefield 2142 Deluxe Edition, which contains Battlefield 2142: Northern Strike and is pre-patched to v1.40. If this version is not available to installation order is as follows:
Battlefield 2142™
Update 1.50 (full)
Battlefield 2142: Northern Strike
Update 1.50 (full)
The full Update 1.50 contains the Highway Tampa content update and all previous update content and as such it is not necessary to install all of the updates.
As a guide, the latest full update should always be installed last. In the event of any problems with the game, reinstalling the latest full update will generally rectify the situation and should be attempted before any other troubleshooting steps."
