Dog Tags = Medals?

So what exactly is the criteria for gold-silver-bronze dogtags? Do you get a silver tag if you knife someone repeatedly and a gold if you knife them a ton or something? I haven't gotten any golds yet but I have several silvers.

Player rank determines the metal a tag is made out of.

Players with Chevron ranks (rank 1 to 21) give out Bronze dog tags, people in the Bar ranks (22 to 49) give out silver, and Star ranks (generals 50 Up) give Gold.
