    Weird BF2 issue

Hey everyone, relatively new to BF2!
I'd like to play like a team member, follow calls etc, but I have a very very strange problem.

Creative Audio cards and Windows 7 are like oil and water for my system. It doesn't help that I have a PCI Audigy 2 Platinum that's now 8 years old. When I have the microphone plugged into the mic in on the sound card itself, I sound pretty much like a robot. Distorted, scratchy, reverb etc. So I found a solution online to fix the problem. I re-enabled my onboard sound and I process my microphone input through the Realtek Onboard Audio.

However, for some reason I cannot hear any voice communication. I spend about 20 minutes on the server with andy and vis trying to fix it, but the problem persists. I love playing the game, but not being able to listen to voice communication would risk me getting banned for non-compliance with orders

I have a theory as to why this doesn't work, but I can't find an answer online or anywhere else about how to fix this issue. I think that the game processes Voice communication separately and thus the audio output for voice communication would be handled by the realtek onboard. However all my game sound is being output by my sound blaster audigy 2.

Anyone else know how to fix this issue or have any recommendations? Thank you for your time and consideration!

    Bane,

Someone will be along with technical knowledge that can help you out. I was in the squad with you and Andy that day. It is odd that you can hear all sounds, but can't hear voice. I was wondering if for some reason you had chat muted while ingame.

As for your concerns about being kicked or banned, you can rest easy now and get on the server and play. As long as you are squading up and following orders, voice communication is not a prerequisite to play on the server. You can always communicate with ingame responses or type responses via team/squad chat.

Modified: I read over you post again and misunderstood what you were saying. What I mentioned above is partially correct in that you do not have to have voice communications to play this game, although it is recommended. However, you will need to be able to hear communications from your squad leader and/or commander. There are some squad leaders/commanders that do not use in game commands, but rather stick to voice 100%. By not hearing their voice instructions, you will run into problems of not being able to follow orders, which can ultimately result in you being kicked and/or banned. How is your progress coming along getting this rectified?

Have you tried taking that Creative card out,and backing over it with the car?

Try just using the onboard sound,or try a USB headset (A USB would use the onboard card by default).

Haha I just needed to know how to spawn =P. I was stuck on the carrier for ages and I for sure don't know how to fly a helicopter. Probably would have flown into the water.

    USB headset? *gasp* blaspheme!
I used to have a USB one, was really annoying switching back and forth between both sound sources. The USB headset by default uses it's own sound card built in and not the onboard sound card. I think the creative card sounds better than my realtek onboard

Any help is appreciated! Thanks guys! Hope to have this problem fixed by next weekend's LAN fest

    Re: Weird BF2 issue

I also had problems with creative sound cards and win 7, on vista I did what your are now using the sound card for sound output and realtek for my mic, when i switched to win 7 it caused "issues"... comp would randomly lock up.

So i uninstalled all realtek drivers and disabled onboard sound completly, Then tried using diffrent versions of creative drivers tell i found one that worked, but I dont know with a 8 year old audigy, creative can barely make drivers that work for there new cards. Maybe upgrade to a newer x-fi card?

The windows mixer can be funky. If you are using the Realtek, make sure you have the "enable crossover" (I think that's what it's called, I'll have to look it up when I get home) option enabled via the Realtek Control panel thingy and then unmute the stereo-mixer.

    Re: Weird BF2 issue

Almost a month, but I can tell you one thing...
    It works again!

SirMoo, I couldn't find anything about "enable crossover" in my realtek control panel. It's some Gigabyte branded software app.

Anyways, for some reason, I can hear my squadmates now... Hopefully wont jinx it and hope to be more of a presence on the BF2 Vanilla server (if it's not @ 60/64 (4)) like it normally is
