STEAM FOR MAC : BF2 question

    I downloaded steam for mac

So do I need to get BF2 from steam so I can run it on the Mac? Are my BF2 install cd's now obsolete?

No BF2 (yet?) for Macs on Steam.
Install off of your discs...fool. Links to all of the patches are in the Public Forums.

Didn't you say you were running Windows? Maybe you could just install the regular Steam, and get it that way?

I was fired up about this too Xav until I realized they're only porting shitty games that basically already have a native OSX equivalent. They are supposed to release new games for Steam Mac every week but I wouldn't hold my breath for BF2. I was hoping they'd have L4D2 in there but from the looks of things its not likely or will take a long ass time. Sigh.

Go Bootcamp. Works great for my MBP.

And yes if you do go the Steam route, you'd need to buy BF2 again through Steam. There is really no point though since the overlay doesn't work in BF2 because of punkbuster. The damn Steam overlay is the only reason I'd go with BF2 through Steam in the first place but yeah it doesn't work.

Just because Steam is on MACs doesn't mean that every game that is available for PC will be available to MAC users. The game needs to be ported to MAC for them to make it available. That would imply that EA would spend the time/effort to port BF2, a game that's already 5 years old. Not gonna happen.

You'll mainly get Source engine based games and whatever else game companies decide to create for MAC.

Why can't you run BF2 from your virtual Windows side?
Isn't that what you were doing before?

Because in many cases - the hardware accel through virtual machines is less than optimal.

Re: STEAM FOR MAC : BF2 question

You guys thought that EA was going to create a Mac port because Valve made Valve game Mac ports? Woooo boy. I have some swamp land you might be interested in purchasing.

I'd be happy if Valve can just get ports of all their source games to Mac.
