    Buy From STEAM or Not?

Long time BF2'er thinking about buying this game.

Any thoughts on whether it is better to buy the game through STEAM or just get the DVD?

I'm wondering in terms of bugs, other issues, STEAM having to run in the background in order to run the game, etc.

Is it the type of game where you have to have the DVD in the CD-ROM player to run the game if you bought it from a store and not steam?

    Thanks

I had the 3 CD-ROM (plus 2-CD Special Forces Expansion) and bought it on Steam as soon as it came out. I've had very few problems with it, and it installs a whole lot easier/faster than from disc. No shuffling CDs, no patching. Just right-click, install.

I haven't seen or noticed any issues that are exclusive to Steam. It auto updates nicely and is easy to keep track of so long as you have your account.

    Welcome to TPG btw.

I got it on Steam for convenience sake. But I don't see anything wrong with getting as a DVD if that's what you prefer. Having it as a DVD also keeps off Big Brother Steam from having to be run in the background, and you have a tangible hard copy that way. But, again, Steam is faster/more convenient.

I went out and got the DVD. The box has a sort of holographic touch to it. I just feel more secure with a disk copy, plus you can choose when you install if you want to boot the game with or without the disk. If you want to boot without the CD it limits it to 10 installations or something like that. If you choose to use the disk its unlimited I suppose, but needs the disk.

I got mine on steam because:

    1. I live in a small town that does not carry a lot of games. (probably not relavent to you)

    2. No worring about the dvd getting scratched and owning a paper weight and having to rebuy the game (I had to do it with quite a few of my old games)

    3. No CD Key to document.

    4. I can use steam to install it on any computer I choose at any time as long as there is an internet connection.

    5. steam achievements and community features are kind of neat

I personal have 2 hard copies of BFBC2. One for me and one for my son.

One DVD and the only thing you have to do after is download the minor updates.
