06-22-10, 02:02 PM #1Priming Issues Concerning Armor
Ok, I'm tired of people jabbering on about the gentleman's rule that you shouldn't use APC's/Tanks until we have a good mix of players in.
(I am about to play Devil's Advocate. This post does not reflect my attitude towards the issue)
I would like to remind you all that we are gamers foremost, gentlement second, or not gentlemen at all. As a gamer, you do whatever it takes to win using all assets you have, no matter how many players are on. If the other team loses because you've been using armor when there are only four or two people on, then it's their fault for not picking up an AT4 or using the stationary AT's that are ever so thoughtfully placed to cover key chokepoints for those who AREN'T playing Engineer.
All classes except Medic have the capability to take down armor. Assaults can replace their beloved 40mm grenades for C4 when they use a non-assault rifle weapon (The M14, G3, and M1 Garand are considered battle rifles). The Engineer comes with four options to destroy armor, with the AT4 being the most powerful, and the Carl Gustav the weakest. The Sniper gets access to the ever-annoying Mortar Strike and C4 by default, so utilize your assets.
As for why we are gentlemen second, we have to assume a critical and cynical attitude towards others. You can never count on your "friends" to necessarily play fairly or by your rule book. If you ask people not to use armor, they have every right to refuse, and they probably will feel the urge TO refuse. If they refuse, as aforementioned, use whatever you can to take down their armor. Some tips: The AT4 with the explosive package destroys an un-advanced armored tank in two hits. It's very effective if you're aggressive.
Now, to summarize: Ask first. If they refuse or don't answer, assume they're going to use armor and there's nothing you can do about it. I'm not asking you guys to stop using the "gentleman's rule", but assume that others don't know it by heart.
Allane.

Re: Priming Issues Concerning Armor
I personally have a problem with this considering I picked up the game two days ago and have played Assault almost non-stop. The only capability I personally have to take down armor is a freaking RPG. I wasn't complaining when my team used armor, however, but I'll attempt to justify that by saying that you guys were using that freaking machine gun that saw everything, and I personally had no way to take it down without exposing myself to it for too long.

Re: Priming Issues Concerning Armor
Thank you.
Gentlemens rules are agreements and nothing more. If a person wants to go against the agreement then that is their choice, they will be seen as a dick, but yes they can do it, it is not illegal.
A good example of priming and gentlemen's rules is in team fortress 2.
In TF2 there are time when people want to prime with melee only and so they ask and make sure that the other players know what their terms are for the time being. If both parties agree it commences, if not then they just play. Sometimes they don't want to to cap the last point, but you can.
This community was founded on do what it takes to win as a team. There is bunny hopping, jihad jeeping, etc. that other communities don't want. Just because there is a certain # of people is in a game does not give you an excuse to call "not fair". You can talk to the other people and let them know what you want to happen, they can agree, or they can disagree.
I can want to prime by doing water sports, but when someone shoots me, pick up move on. Not fair, but oh well.
Do what the situation begs for. Don't make up rules.

Re: Priming Issues Concerning Armor
Let me add a small note. The only reason people ask others to abide by the gentlemen's rule of not using armor till 6v6 is because the server tends to lose players instead of gain them when someone is rolling around blowing everyone up. Yes, RPG's and C4 and Mortars can all take a tank down, but they all have weaknesses as well. Rarely if ever does a person one shot a tank with an RPG which allows the tank to find you and obliterate you, you have to get up close and personal with C4 which can be quite difficult at times, and the tank can roll away from even the best placed mortar rounds. Yes, some people are better with certain weapons and weapon systems than others...but when your whole team as to dedicate themselves to taking out a tank while the other team is capturing control points, the game loses a lot of appeal. I for one get very frustrated with the quirks of BC2 as it is...having someone rolling around in a tank unevening the battlefield just makes the game unfun enough for me to want to leave. And that is the way a lot of people feel too I am sure.

Re: Priming Issues Concerning Armor
This post is dead on. I did not know about this rule when I first started but it does make sense. All we can do is appeal to our regs and others who know it is advantageous to the server to follow this rule.
Other than that it is to adapt and overcome!

Re: Priming Issues Concerning Armor
Just remember to be courteous about it and you will usually get the result you want. I just type in all caps " NO ARMOR PLZ " or something to that effect and it works almost every time. If not then like they said, deal with it it's part of the game.
